Summary of Job Duties:

The HPC Administrator and AI Facilitator position will be responsible for proactively maintaining and developing Linux infrastructure technology to maintain uptime service, providing training and direct support to scientific HPC users, including presentations and regularly scheduled tutorial sessions, engineering of systems administration-related solutions for various project and operational needs and advising researchers on incorporation of modern Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques to improve performance using tools like TensorFlow, PyTorch, MXNet, NVIDIA Cuda. They will also be assisting researchers in performing research tasks on the HPC cluster, using platforms and tools such as MySQL, MariaDB, Shell, Perl, Python, VMWare; proactively monitoring system performance and capacity planning, managing, coordinating, and implementing software upgrades, patches, hot fixes on servers, workstations, and network hardware, and collaborating with other teams and team members to develop automation strategies and deployment processes. This includes writing user documentation for installed software, providing user support, and monitoring system performance.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or similar PLUS at least four years of relevant research experience in academia or industry

  • Proficiency in one or more commonly used scientific programming languages such as c++, c, fortran, python

  • In depth knowledge of Linux

  • Proficiency in scripting (bash, python)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or similar

  • Three years of experience with academic research

  • Demonstrated interest in high performance computing

  • Knowledge of HPC software such as lmod, containers, virtual machines

  • Expertise in Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI)

  • Knowledge of GPU (Cuda) computing, parallel programming and performance optimization

  • Demonstrated knowledge of protocols such as DNS, HTTP, LDAP, SMTP, SNMP

  • Experience with parallel file systems such as Lustre or StorageScale

  • Linux certifications (RHCT, RHCE or LPIC)

  • Familiarity with virtualization software such as KVM and VMWare

  • Experience with software containers (Singularity/Apptainer)

  • Experience with public presentations and training methods such as The Carpentries

  • Experience with database management (MySQL/MariaDB)

  • Experience building, benchmarking and optimizing open source software, using multiple compilers, optimized math libraries, distributed and parallel computing libraries. (such as GNU, INTEL, PGI, BLAS, LAPACK, MKL, MPI)
