Summary of Job Duties:
Under the direction of the CLAF Manager and the Attending Veterinarian, the Animal Care Technician will be responsible for the husbandry care of laboratory animals, including monitoring and reporting animal health and behavior status, providing food and water, changing cages, monitoring environmental conditions, documenting animal room activities, and sanitizing assigned animal holding rooms and support areas.Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma
One year of specialized training in business management, business education, or a related field
At least four years of experience in a specialized or a related field applicable to work performed
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in science or related field from an accredited institution of higher education
AALAS certification (ALAT, LAT, or LATG) or equivalent
Three or more years of experience in vivarium operations and laboratory animal research
Experience with SCID mouse or transgenic facility practices and procedures
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Excellent oral/written communication and organizational and time-management skills
Basic computer and data entry skills including Microsoft applications and university
Demonstrated ability to complete routine husbandry and sanitation assignments
Ability to observe animals and identify abnormalities in health or behavior status and communicate these to the manager or Attending Veterinarian
Ability to maintain accurate records, logbooks, databases
Ability to handle laboratory animals
Ability to monitor and document environmental parameters
