Summary of Job Duties:

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting experiments and supporting daily research operations of the Nematology Lab, Greenhouses and Field work. Job duties will include planting and caring for plants in greenhouses, maintaining pure cultures of plant-parasitic nematodes, and conducting infection assays. The appointed individual will also design and perform molecular experiments in the lab and will be responsible for data collection, data interpretation, and contribution to resulting reports to funding agencies. This position also covers an assistance in the general lab management which includes perfuming inventory, ordering lab supplies, providing support to graduate student and postdoc projects, training and supervising undergraduate student workers for lab activities as needed, maintaining compliance with lab safety and permit regulations.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • M.S. degree in nematology, microbiology, plant science, plant-pathogen interactions, or a related field OR
  • B.Sc. in nematology, microbiology, plant science, plant-pathogen interactions, or a related field with at least three years of previous research experience with plant pathogens or crop pests and soil management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with plant parasitic nematodes or other plant pathogens
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, Western Blotting, molecular cloning
  • Statistical analysis of data and ability to code in R or use SAS
  • Bioinformatics experience
  • Previous experience in training and supervising students/hourly workers
  • Evidence of strong potential for managerial responsibilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Demonstrated laboratory research experience
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Meticulous organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Attention to details, proven ability to follow written protocols and adhere to safety regulations
  • Hold a valid driver’s license
