Summary of Job Duties:
The Software Support Specialist provides information technology assistance and guidance for the Department of Mathematical Sciences. Duties include:
• maintaining the software and hardware of the Mathematics Resources and Teaching Center (MRTC)
• compiling data reports for MRTC and for course sections as needed
• supervising MRTC workers (undergraduate, work study, and hourly employees)
• managing instructor and student accounts with online content providers
• developing new or improving existing MRTC procedures and practices regarding information technology
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field
At least one year of experience in computer software programming or a related field
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using remote management, imaging, and other prep tools, and device enrollment tools; specifically, an MDM tool, Intune, Bomgar
Experience supporting Windows operating systems
Experience with purchasing technology hardware and software using University of Arkansas procurement procedures
Experience supporting specialized software such as Blackboard, Respondus Lockdown Browser, Pearson MyLab Math, ALEKS
Familiar with university asset management system
Demonstrated knowledge of Active Directory, Azure, and other enterprise computing platforms
Demonstrated evidence of good communication (oral and written) are required as well as the ability to describe complex ideas clearly and understandably to both users and other technicians
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of best practices for computer and device security, including antivirus and anti-malware solutions
Familiarity with and knowledge of software deployment and patch management
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to adapt to new technologies
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users
Skill in customer-oriented approach and commitment to providing exceptional service to end-users
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
