Summary of Job Duties:

The role of the extra help/classroom assistant is to supplement the quality of care provided to the children in the room by Center administration and full-time classroom teaching associates. The early childhood assistant shall be under the supervision of the Teaching Associates and under the direct supervision of the Executive Director and Operations Manager.

10%- Follow all Center policies and report any incidents of inappropriate conduct or violation of social norms to administrative team immediately.

20% - Engage in professional behavior including but not limited to: Be on time for scheduled shifts, dress functionally but professionally, maintain good hygiene, communicate absences, request time-off; respond to communication from administrative team; complete on-going professional development that is registered with PDR

20%- Assist classroom Teaching Associates completing tasks that include but are not limited to: cleaning and maintaining centers by straightening toys and disinfecting areas; complete routines and rituals like meal times, diapering/toileting; keeping children clean; implement or monitor indoor and outdoor activities

50%- Actively engage with children and provide positive guidance when necessary. Respond, comfort, and guide children in a positive manner by acknowledging their feelings and actions, providing clear choices that scaffold mistaken behavior, and follow through with natural consequences; implement or monitor indoor and outdoor activities.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma

  • At least one cumulative year of experience working with young children

  • Willingness to participate in trainings (25 hours per calendar year)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Child Development Associate (CDA) or other higher education training in Early Childhood Education.

  • At least 2 years working in a Child Care Center or facility

  • Participation in professional development

  • Experience and/or understanding of the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Enjoyment of working with young children

  • Good mental and physical health

  • Respect for all cultural and economic backgrounds

  • Maintain confidential information about children and not discuss information with anyone outside of the JTCDSC


Additional Information:

This position is for 30 hours a week as a consistent assistant to the classroom teachers. The position ends May 31 but has the option to for summer employment.
