Job Details:

This position requires performing multiple chemistry work instructions and quality system procedures in a Food Laboratory, including tasks related to chemistry sample preparation, sample login, and receipt of supplies. The applicant must be able to learn and perform advanced-level work instructions and operate advanced laboratory equipment. Additional responsibilities include:
  • Working independently and resolving complex problems
  • Maintaining ISO records for process control and ensuring compliance with quality system and safety requirements
  • Performing routine maintenance and calibrations of advanced instrumentation
  • Evaluating situations quickly and responding appropriately
  • Communicating proactively with peers, supervisors, and customers
  • Completing continuous improvement projects aimed at improving laboratory operations
  • Multitasking effectively and demonstrating excellent organizational skills
  • Assisting in training less experienced team members
  • Performing other assigned duties, including inventory management, ordering, receiving and logging laboratory supplies, cleaning, and maintaining shared workspaces
Precision and accuracy in performing work instructions and collecting data are essential.

Requirements and Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science discipline plus 2 years of laboratory experience, or
  • More than 4 years of technical training in a laboratory-related role, including at least 1 year of chromatography experience
  • Strong reading and comprehension skills required for self-guided learning and application of scientific materials and instructions

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of laboratory-related experience preferred
  • Chromatography experience with demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair advanced analytical laboratory equipment
  • Ability to perform peer review of chromatography data

Difficulty of Duties

Work activities are variable and require good judgment to complete tasks such as setting priorities, evaluating results, reporting interpretations or opinions, and coordinating activities with others.

Training Programs

Training requirements for this job classification have been assessed by the appropriate management team member and are listed in the LIMS Training Manager. The amount and level of training required depend on the level of responsibility assigned and may vary among team members.

Computer Skills

  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Strong computer skills, as laboratories are paperless and digitized
  • Expert-level proficiency in LabWare LIMS functions

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use safe lifting techniques to occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, handle objects or tools, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, talk, hear alarms and instrument signals, and visually inspect results
  • Must wear latex, nitrile, or equivalent gloves when handling chemicals to prevent exposure to standard laboratory chemicals
