Job Summary:
The purpose of the Sr Sensory Lab Technician is to assist in the execution of internal sensory tests (discrimination, descriptive and/or acceptance) to drive Tyson’s innovation, quality, and cost savings initiatives. This role ensures smooth day-to-day operation of the sensory laboratory by preparing and presenting test samples, maintaining lab equipment, managing inventory, and coordinating shipping and supply needs. The role partners closely with Sensory Specialists and collaborates across R&D teams to deliver accurate, timely, and actionable sensory data that informs business decisions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Foster a collaborative and positive team environment, demonstrating clear and open communication with colleagues.
- Assist in planning, preparing, and executing internal sensory panels, ensuring tests are run accurately and efficiently.
- Carry out daily laboratory operations under the direction of the Manager or Sensory Lab Specialist, including sample preparation, labeling, and serving.
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization, and compliance with sanitation and safety protocols.
- Manage ordering, receiving, and stocking of laboratory supplies, ingredients, and groceries to ensure uninterrupted lab operations.
- Support the execution of sensory tests by collecting, entering, and verifying data in the sensory database; assist with preliminary data analysis and report preparation.
- Help maintain and update protocol manuals to reflect current testing procedures and best practices.
- Contribute to sensory training sessions for panelists to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability in evaluations. Provide occasional support for external or consumer sensory testing as directed.
- Identify and suggest opportunities for process and workflow improvements within the sensory lab.
Requirements:
Education: High School Diploma required. Bachelor’s degree in Science, Business or related field strongly preferred.
Experience: 3+ years relevant and practical experience with food product development, sensory software, or laboratory management required or a Bachelor’s degree in similar field.
Special Job Competencies: Solid proficiency in use of Microsoft tools such as Word, Excel, & PowerPoint. Highly motivated and eager to learn. Basic understanding of statistical design, analysis and interpretation of data. Understanding of sensory test methods a plus.
