Summary:
The Senior Product Manager is a key strategic leader responsible for overseeing the development and execution of business plans across Private Label, Foodservice, Regionals, and Deli categories. This role carries full P&L ownership and is accountable for driving financial performance, market share growth, and cross-functional alignment to achieve business objectives. The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of the Prepared Foods industry, excels in complex business problem solving, and thrives in leading through influence across a matrixed organization.
This role requires a high level of cross-functional leadership, data-driven decision-making, and business acumen—particularly in pricing, cost management, and end-to-end commercialization.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Business Planning
- Develop and lead multi-year strategic plans and annual business plans aligned with financial goals (volume, revenue, profit).
- Own and manage P&L performance across assigned business units, identifying and implementing margin-enhancing initiatives.
- Guide cross-functional teams to ensure execution of strategic initiatives and continuous improvement.
Product & Packaging Innovation
- Oversee the full lifecycle of product and packaging development, from concept through commercialization, for both branded and private label initiatives.
- Champion innovation aligned to retailer needs, operational capabilities, and consumer trends.
- Partner with R&D, Culinary, Packaging, and Operations to ensure feasibility, cost-efficiency, and speed-to-market.
Data-Driven Decision Making
- Leverage syndicated data (IRI/Nielsen), market intelligence, and internal analytics to identify trends, uncover opportunities, and mitigate risks.
- Drive proactive decision-making by translating insights into clear, actionable strategies for internal teams and customers.
Customer & Sales Collaboration
- Act as a strategic business partner to Sales and Customer Business Teams, supporting key accounts with tailored growth plans.
- Lead customer-facing engagements as needed and represent Product Management in joint business planning sessions.
Cross-Functional & Organizational Leadership
- Serve as a key connector across Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain, Finance, R&D, and Operations.
- Lead initiatives that improve team collaboration, streamline processes, and enhance speed to execution.
- Mentor and guide junior product managers and cross-functional team members to build capabilities and deliver results.
Operational & Supply Chain Partnership
- Collaborate with Supply Chain and Operations teams to drive efficiencies, manage inventory, and optimize cost structures.
- Understand how sourcing, manufacturing, and distribution decisions impact P&L and long-term strategic viability.
Forecasting & Demand Planning
- Own the volume forecast process for assigned categories, ensuring accuracy and alignment across Commercial and Supply Chain teams.
- Identify risks and opportunities in demand planning, ensuring readiness for customer needs and market shifts.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or equivalent advanced degree strongly preferred.
Experience:
- 7+ years of progressive experience in product management, brand management, category management, or related CPG/commercial roles.
- Demonstrated success in P&L ownership, product strategy, and team leadership.
- Experience with Private Label, Foodservice, and Retail Channel strategies strongly preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
- Proven leadership and ability to drive results through cross-functional teams in a complex, fast-paced environment.
- Strong financial acumen and ability to analyze pricing, cost structures, and profitability levers.
- Expertise in data tools including Excel, Power BI, IRI/Nielsen, PMDM/NPD.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and influence skills, with a track record of presenting to senior leadership and external customers.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This role will lead direct reports and cross-functional project teams.
Travel:
- Up to 15% domestic travel required.
Location: Tyson Foods Corporate Office, Springdale, AR. Remote/hybrid work is NOT available.
