SUMMARY:
The Packaging Engineer II will be responsible for organizing, planning, managing, and executing packaging Innovation, development and cost reduction projects for Retail, Club, Foodservice, and international businesses. The Packaging Engineer II will also assist with research, design, testing, justification, and deployment of new package technology to deliver new or improved packaged products. This individual will work with project teams to investigate and recommend materials, processes, innovation, packaging, and equipment to bring assigned project to successful conclusion. Additionally, they will provide technical support to Product Development, Business Units (BU), Supply Chain, and Procurement in technical expertise. The individual in this role will also support Supply Chain and BU function in manufacturing of packages that meet customer and consumer expectation for character, cost, and quality in assigned product category. The Packaging Engineer II will develop the ability to manage/recommend projects that will lead to opportunity for innovation, growth, sustainability, intellectual property, and profitability.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Support assigned Business Unit with all package development needs
• Manage multiple packaging development, technical application, sustainability, and cost reduction projects and/or programs.
• Leads assigned resources in problem identification and problem resolution to facilitate new or improved packages, packaging upgrades, new or improved processes and cost savings.
• Supports the development of technological innovation in equipment, materials, processing, or package design including packaging development specifications.
• Supports the development of intellectual property for new package platforms / designs when applicable
• Work as a cross functional resource with Business Units, Insights/Innovation, Supply Chain Engineering, Product Development R&D, and Procurement to develop new packaging platforms to support product innovation
• Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with operations/divisional management and external customers.
• Develop partnerships with suppliers to create new and unique packaging and processes.
• Responsible for assuring all projects are seen through to completion including documentation and protection of intellectual property.
• Supports the establishment and execution of departmental priorities and program strategy efforts in conjunction with department Director and/or VP.
• Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with operations/divisional management and external customers.
• Leverages external vendors and works directly with procurement.
• Provide technical support to project teams to solve manufacturing problems.
• Serve as a technical resource to the organization in at least one area of expertise.
• Proficient in specification systems
• Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Proficient with product and packaging interactions sustainability food protections and package testing. Knowledgeable in packaging equipment packaging processes and working with supply chain engineering on capital projects involving packaging solutions
Education: BS MS Packaging Engineering or related field
Experience: Minimum 4 years total (or advanced degree); Minimum 2 years in an advanced technical position managing cross functional teams and packaging suppliers
Computer Skills: Requires basic computer skills. For example generating simple letters spreadsheets and creating simple queries. May require knowledge of Tyson Business Computer. Familiarity with Cape Tops ArtiosCad CAD etc.
Communication Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills required. Presentation skills required. Must have the ability to effectively communicate with cross functional business partners.
Special Skills if applicable: Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills. Strong project management skills. Strong planning and organizational skills.
Supervisory: No direct reports. Mentor to Interns of the Packaging Department
Travel: 30%
Location: This role will be based onsite at our World Headquarters in Springdale, AR.
