Job Profile Summary

As a Packaging Systems Senior Specialist, this role will play a critical role in managing and optimizing packaging-related data to support new product development, specification changes, and broader business initiatives. This position bridges technical expertise, data management, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure accuracy, integrity, and strategic use of packaging data across the organization.

This role will be responsible for entering and validating data in both legacy and new Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, querying data, and generating reports to support decision-making. This role will also involve configuring and testing the new PLM system, migrating data, and supporting change management through documentation and training.

In addition to these data management responsibilities, you will serve as a subject matter expert in Packaging, providing technical insights that influence operational efficiency and sustainability efforts. Your ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and drive continuous improvement will be essential to your success in this role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Data Entry and QA – Gather and accurately input data from various sources into new PLM and legacy systems for New Product Development and Spec Changes. Ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data through regular audits and validation checks.

Data Analysis and Reporting – Query and analyze data from various sources to identify trends, patterns, and insights to support decision–making. Build regular and ad–hoc reports for stakeholders using PLM, Power BI, and Excel.

Collaboration and Communication – Work with internal stakeholders, external partners, and cross–functional teams to understand data needs, align business objectives, and provide support for data–related projects. Maintain clear and consistent communication with stakeholders as needed to provide updates and manage expectations.

System Configuration and Testing – Support setup and configuration of the new PLM system to meet the specific needs and requirements of the organization. Conduct thorough testing to ensure business needs are met and issues are resolved.

Data Migration – Query, merge, and clean data from legacy systems and various sources to migrate data into the new PLM system, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.

Documentation, Training, and Change Management – Create/maintain documentation and train internal and external users on processes, best practices, and reports. Support change management strategies to facilitate user adoption and minimize resistance to the new PLM system.

Support, Maintenance, and Security – Provide ongoing support and maintenance for the PLM system, addressing user issues promptly to ensure smooth operations. Protect sensitive data by following IT Security measures and monitoring access controls.

Project Management and Prioritization – Simultaneously manage multiple projects including planning, execution, and monitoring progress. Regularly seek input from stakeholders to prioritize projects based on their importance and impact. Adapt and adjust priorities as the project progresses and new information becomes available.

Operational Excellence – Drive operational excellence by continuously improving processes, reducing inefficiencies, and fostering a culture of quality, accountability, and customer-focused performance. Collaborate with teams to ensure successful execution of new processes.

Packaging Expertise– Develop expertise in packaging data and its impact on business operations and sustainability initiatives. Act as a technical resource and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Packaging Engineers and the broader organization. Demonstrate sound judgment by making informed decisions despite incomplete or ambiguous data, balancing risk with business needs and proactively seeking clarification when necessary.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in computer science or related field.

Experience: 3+ years of computer science or business analytics experience. Relevant work experience in packaging and engineering preferred.

Computer Skills:

  • Requires intermediate/advanced skills in MS Office, Excel, SQL, Google Cloud (GCP), Power BI, and AI.
  • Preferred familiarity with PLM/Spec Systems (Specright & Oracle), ERP Systems (SAP & DB2), Sustainability & Compliance Systems, Artwork Management System (Esko WebCenter), and Packaging Design Systems (Tops & Cape).

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate with cross functional business partners.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Presentation skills required.

Travel: 25% - 12+ domestic trips per year

Supervisory: No direct / indirect reports. Mentor to Interns of the Packaging Department
