Job Details:
This position is responsible for assisting and supporting Technologists, Lead Technicians, Complex Machines Technicians, and Pilot Plant Management to successfully complete a high volume of Research and Development tests daily. This is a year-round internship with the selected candidate expected to work part-time during the school year and full-time during the summer.
Job Duties
- Team Collaboration: Work well with others in a team environment.
- Instruction Adherence: Follow verbal and written instructions and apply them to a processing line.
- Daily Operations: Work closely with lead technician, food technologist, complex machines technicians, maintenance, and pilot plant management to ensure test samples are successfully produced in the pilot plant each day.
- Data Collection: Assist with data collection as required.
- Ingredient Handling: Accurately weigh and measure ingredients as required for testing.
- Machine Setup and Breakdown: Assist with machine setup for testing and machine breakdown, including moving heavy equipment, cleaning work areas, and light wash down of equipment.
- Safety and Compliance: Follow HACCP, SSOP, GMP, and safety procedures during all phases of testing in a USDA inspected pilot plant.
- Physical Demands: Heavy lifting of up to 70 pounds several times per day; capable of working in hot, cold, and wet surroundings.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or lead.

REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Incoming Junior, senior, or higher education with at least one year of school remaining. Food Science, Animal Science, and other Agriculture and Business majors preferred.
Experience: Previous work experience in any field. Experience related to R&D and Food Science preferred.
Other Requirements:
- Must have basic mathematical skills.
- Basic Computer skills: E-Mail, Spreadsheets

- Other duties as assigned by supervisor or lead
- Location: Students must be within commutable distance to the facility, which is 60 miles or less.
Physical Requirements may include:
- Standing 90%; Sitting 10%
- Lifting - up to 70 pounds - this is done multiple times throughout the day every day.
- Pushing / Pulling- 20 to several hundred pounds - this is done multiple times throughout the day every day. This consists of moving supplies and products around the plant using carts or hand pallet jacks.
- Walking - Technicians are on the move all the time.
- Must be capable of working in hot, cold and wet surroundings.
