Job Details:

Location: Bates Mountain Farm, Summers, AR

Schedule: Rotating 4 days on 2 days off, including weekends and holidays.

Hours: 6:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. or until finished

Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs.

Applicants must reside in the United States to be considered for an interview.

Priority consideration will be provided to internal applicants first.

Applicants with previous agricultural or production experience will be considered preferred.

Applicant must have at least six consecutive months of work experience with the same employer and no additional gaps in employment greater than six months within the last 36 months. If applicant was laid-off, providing eldercare or childcare, the six month gap will be increased to 18 months. Previous work history criteria will not apply to applicants who have been full time students consecutively for the last 36 months.

Starting wage - $16.50/hour plus additional shift differential for evenings, nights and weekends

Position Summary:

  • Attend to and care for birds in brooding houses; inspect birds to determine quality and progress by performing the below duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Feeds and waters birds according to schedules; walks floors daily to inspect water lines, pick up and dispose of mortality, and examine birds for signs of a weak or sick bird that needs to be euthanized in accordance with company policy (50%)

  • Applies insecticides, and rodenticides inside houses (10%)

  • Records feed and mortality daily, cleans and disinfects equipment, collects weekly lab samples, administers or assists in administering vaccines to birds. (10%)

  • Assists in sorting pullets (10%)

Other duties, responsibilities, and activities:

  • Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice, such as inspects birds to determine quality and progress by weighing birds weekly by hand; set up of brooding house materials; perform basic maintenance; maintain house conditions to ensure optimal bird health; communicate issues in a timely manner to management; maintain a bio-secure environment at all times; operate a weed eater/blower; maintenance and sanitation of Comfort Station Breakroom, equipment, and vehicles (20%)

Biosecurity/Animal Welfare:

  • The jobsite is a bio-secure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear is provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to not own and to avoid contact with any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to move items such as bags of shavings, feed buckets, bags of mortality, tools, etc. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk majority of shift on multiple floor surfaces (concrete floor, shavings); sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; talk or hear; stoop/bend up to 300 times per day; drive a vehicle within the farm complex. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Tools and Equipment:

  • Environment: Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also work in hot, dry, extreme dusty, dark, wet, icy, snowy and cold environments. Required to work in extreme hot conditions for two – three weeks at placement of baby chicks.

  • Personal Protective Equipment Required: Safety goggles and/or glasses, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof aprons, headlamps, and company issued footwear are required. Ear plugs will be used as required. NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed.

  • Chemicals Commonly Used: Disinfectants such as Synergize, Lysol, bleach, insecticides, herbicides, rodenticides, etc.

  • Safety: Team member is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment. Team member is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
