This position is responsible for developing and supporting the strategic planning and sourcing of swine in order to meet the current and future goals of the company in accordance with Tyson s mission vision and values. It will support the Newbern Tennessee and Union City, Tennessee plants to establish supply sources maximize current and future market conditions and create contingency plans to ensure critical supply needs are met; establish metrics and evaluate develop and prioritize approaches to meet business objectives and targets; develop utilize and manage informational tools for improved swine procurement; participate in high-level risk management activities; develop annual AOP and LRP utilizing market knowledge; and train the Manager of Sow Procurement in all aspects of the business to include managing the procurement department in the director’s absence. Additionally this position will procure livestock from suppliers in defined supply areas; develop relationships with key suppliers; engage in joint business planning with suppliers; establish performance metrics and manage supplier performance based on company objectives; oversee the quarterly business review process for key suppliers; provide high-level resolution of issues related to quality or service; understand and enforce bio-security protocols; understand and enforce expectations related to live animal handling transportation and delivery; and ensure all local state and federal regulatory requirements are met. This requires a significant amount of time on the telephone networking with key suppliers, the buyers, and all the area supervisors. This also requires attending state industry functions with the area supervisors and national industry conferences where hog production decision makers are present. Examples would be state pork producer conferences, World Pork Expo, and National Industry Pork Conference.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience
Experience: 6 plus years of experience in swine procurement or sales preferred
Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications Excel Outlook PowerPoint Word is required; must have experience with financial bookkeeping applications
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication is required
Special Skills: Requires proficiency in leadership problems solving and the ability to influence others; must demonstrate and be able to communicate knowledge of the latest market dynamics trends and best practices; strong negotiation skills are required
Supervisory: Experience supervising others is preferred; the position may be responsible for one or more direct reports
Travel: 12 or more trips per year
