SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for designing and initiating complex layouts for capital projects. This includes developing scope of work and writing specifications for proposals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. The engineer will support projects across the group with expertise in process system requirements and design layouts.
Responsibilities include:
- Organize the design resources, supervise design, specification, and procurement, and coordinate the company's objectives regarding capacity, operability, economics, and timelines.
- Involvement in the selection of approved contractors, deciding which systems are best suited for a specific application and how they are to be installed.
Additional duties and responsibilities include:
- Working with Safety Coordinators, becoming familiar with Tyson and OSHA regulations, providing conceptual design engineering for new projects including process flow diagrams, mass balance, and estimates.
- As a secondary function the Engineer III may be asked to provide leadership and management of mid-size to large projects which can range from $5MM to $50MM or more.
- This position will collaborate through all project phases with cross-functional teams at the facility and/or the corporate office such as safety, operations, finance, food safety and quality assurance including technical services, maintenance, engineering, and environmental services. This is especially important to determine project scope and process details while organizing the appropriate resources and managing the design effort.
- This role will lead or support the bidding process to select contractors and equipment vendors which will provide the best value and quality with the demonstrated ability to deliver on schedule and on budget.
- The Engineer will generate specifications, coordinate procurement activities, and make fact-based decisions during execution to achieve the project deliverables regarding production throughput, product quality/specification adherence, functionality, budget control and schedule.
- A high degree of creativity, strategic thinking and problem solving with a mindset of continuous learning and improvement is expected.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: B.S. in Engineering or equivalent engineering experience.
Experience: 5 years applicable experience in the food industry, or entry level experience with accredited engineering degree; knowledge of and experience with the business processes related to meat manufacturing preferred.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Computer Skills: Knowledge and use of computer programs Microsoft exposure, spreadsheet, database, scheduling programs, AutoCAD, and Revit experience is preferred.
Special Skills: Capable of working on multi-faceted projects of any magnitude while requiring limited supervision; Has demonstrated repeated ability to complete complex projects on time and on budget; good knowledge of a variety of the Mechanical Engineering disciplines concepts, practices, and procedures.
Supervisory: This position is responsible for oversight of various departmental personnel as required, external consultants, and leading intra-company cross functional teams.
Travel: up to 30-40% Travel
