JOB TITLE: Comparative Genetics Data Scientist

Overall Job Purpose:

  • The purpose of this position is to develop and execute state-of-the-art genomic approaches to identify positive and negative alleles in broiler breeding populations. The candidate would be expected to develop and deploy advanced bioinformatic and statistical techniques to mine and evaluate genome data to achieve genetic gains and competitive advantage that are in line with Cobb business objectives. The Scientist would i) assist in the development of research plans and contribute to projects consistent with the gene discovery effort ii) conduct experiments focusing on poultry complex traits and diseases and iii) be self-motivated and able to collaborate with internal and external subject matter experts necessary to support research objectives.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Advanced Degree (PhD) Molecular, Comparative or Statistical genetics using computational biology, data science, machine learning focusing on the identification of genetic variants causing phenotypes and disease.
  • Candidates with various levels of experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge of applying genomics, transcriptomics and protein modeling towards the identification non-productive alleles across breeding populations would be beneficial.
  • Candidate must have a proven record of success in relevant field (publications and/or other achievements) and demonstrated experimental design and execution.
  • Experience developing and implementing short and long-term research projects and achieve results.

  • Remains current on new technology by reviewing literature, participating in professional meetings and career development activities and encouraging others to bring information into research activities.
  • Contribute to scientific publications and conferences.
  • Maintain professional verbal and written communications with co-workers, internal and external customers, and vendors at all times.
  • Strive to advance skills and display a willingness to accept future development.
