SUMMARY:

Tyson Foods is looking for an authentic leader, strategic influencer and collaborative partnership builder to join its Category Management & Analytics team, leading category management for Ahold Delhaize USA, Value, Club, Drug & Military accounts. This role is based off-site and will require travel to customer and internal meetings. As a result, candidates should reside near major airports or Tyson’s corporate offices in Northwest Arkansas to be considered.

This position will require leading and developing a team of Category Managers to drive growth with Tyson’s grocery customers. As a leader in the organization, this individual must develop and maintain a high-performing team and drive strong cross-functional collaboration to build best practices and insights in category leadership. Collaborating departments include Customer Development (sales), Analytics, Insights, Commerce Marketing, eCommerce, Business Operations and Sales Planning as well as other internal groups; working with them to identify ways to achieve Tyson sales, distribution, share and financial objectives. Day-to-day interaction is highly focused on partnership with Tyson’s Customer Development team and the customer. Candidates will have a strong background working with syndicated data and analysis, superior presentation and communication skills, and be comfortable independently owning their business area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaboration with contacts at assigned customers, cultivating strong business relationships that establish Tyson Foods as the essential partner for category management needs.
  • Coach and develop team of up to 5 category managers/analysts, supporting their growth using professional development plans, internal learning, and advanced category management training.
  • Analysis of category, competitive and market trends to find insights, utilizing syndicated data (NielsenIQ/Circana), retailer sales data, shopper and panel data, and additional insight and information sources.
  • Developing insight-based recommendations based on analysis of shelf space and assortment in-store and online through proprietary tools and resources.
  • Developing and presenting category reviews, business reviews, new item presentations and executive-level top-to-top presentations with cross functional partners to customer and internal stakeholders.
  • Providing ongoing reporting and scorecards to customers and Customer Development team against key goals (KPIs) and initiatives.
  • Ensuring optimal return for category/shopper data, insight, and resource investments with assigned customers.
  • Playing a part in driving Tyson’s Category Management & Analytics team performance, development, and impact through socialization of best practices and perspective with colleagues in formal and informal forums.
  • Serving as omnichannel subject matter expert for assigned customers through in-depth understanding of applicable data sources, loyalty data and customer’s category go-to-market strategies in store and online and collaborating with eCommerce team to expand category leadership in omnichannel solutions.

  • Supervisory: Manage a team of up to 5

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Need to have:
    • Bachelor’s degree in related field, MBA preferred.
    • 7+ years in Category Management, Insights, or analytic-heavy Sales roles. Experience with grocery or fast-moving consumer goods a plus.
    • Proven experience leading customer engagements in space and assortment, pricing strategy, trade promotion strategy, and omnichannel solutions, building indispensable, collaborative partnerships with retail customers.
    • Demonstrated experience developing and building people talent that thinks critically and leads with insights.
    • Ability to develop and deliver a strategic plan, measure and monitor results, and make recommendations to achieve growth targets through category leadership.
    • Expertise in the Category Management process and proficient in syndicated and panel data as well as familiarity with pricing, promotion, and assortment optimization software.
    • Knowledge and experience working with customer POS data systems (experience with data sources such as NielsenIQ, Circana, NPD, Numerator, shopper card data, panel, and demographics).
    • Excellent communication skills – verbal, written, presentation. Ability to distill complex data into clear, compelling, and actionable stories.
    • Advanced office suite skills (Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Strong planning/organization skills; the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and create structure and process where it does not currently exist.
    • Strong understanding of industry category management trends, frameworks, and best practices.
    • Strong knowledge of retail merchandising and in-store execution tactics.
    • Demonstrated curiosity and interest in learning and applying new concepts.
  • Nice to have:
    • Prior experience supporting Ahold Delhaize.
    • Category management certifications such as Delta Business Insights or Certified Professional Strategic Advisor certification.
    • Experience managing relationships with third party agencies including brokers and data insight providers.
    • Experience in sales and or/analytical sales support and face to face dialogue with customers.
