SUMMARY:
The R&D Pilot Plant Technician is responsible for assisting and supporting Technologists, lead technicians, complex machines technicians and pilot plant management to successfully complete a high volume of Research and Development tests daily.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work well with others in a team environment
- Be able to follow verbal and written instructions as well as be able to apply those instructions with regard to a processing line
- Work closely with lead technician, food technologist, complex machines technicians, maintenance, and pilot plant management to insure test samples are successfully produced in the pilot plant each day
- Assist with data collection as required
- Be able to accurately weigh and measure ingredients as required for testing
- Assist with machine set-up for testing and machine breakdown including, but not limited to, moving of heavy equipment, cleaning work areas and light wash down of equipment
- Follow HACCP, SSOP, GMP, and safety procedures during all phases of testing in a USDA inspected pilot plant; heavy lifting of up to 70# several times per day
- Have good work attendance history
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or lead
REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: High School Degree or Equivalent.
- Experience: Further processing of beef, pork and/or poultry highly desirable but not required.
Other Requirements:
- Must have basic mathematical skills.
- Basic Computer skills: e-mail, spreadsheets, etc.
- Good communication Skills
- Good teamwork Skills
- Seek additional opportunities when assigned tasks are complete
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor or lead
Physical Requirements may include:
- Standing 90%; Sitting 10%
- Lifting - up to 70 pounds - this is done multiple times throughout the day every day.
- Pushing / Pulling- 20 to several hundred pounds - this is done multiple times throughout the day every day. This consists of moving supplies and products around the plant using carts or hand pallet jacks.
- Walking - Technicians are on the move all the time.
- Must be capable of working in hot, cold, and wet surroundings.
Pay rate: $15 per hour
