Summary:
Tyson Foods is looking for an analytically minded storyteller to join its Meijer team. Candidates required to reside and work in Meijer’s trading area (including Grand Rapids, Detroit, Chicago, Cincinnati, Indianapolis).
This position is responsible for developing category-centric solutions and strategies to drive growth with Meijer, one of Tyson Foods’ key retail customers. Results are expected to be achieved through use of multiple data sources and high-quality analysis to provide clearly communicated and actionable insights for our customers and sales partners. This role often provides independent guidance to the customer around strategic management of product categories and departments while maximizing growth for both the customer and Tyson Foods. Additionally, this role partners with cross functional partners in Customer Development (Sales), Commerce Marketing, eCommerce, Business Operations and Sales Strategy & Planning as well as other internal groups to identify ways to achieve Tyson sales, distribution, share and financial objectives. Day-to-day interaction is highly focused on partnership & collaboration with the multiple decision makers at Meijer, as well as with Tyson’s Customer Development team.
Responsibilities include:
- Collaboration with contacts at Meijer, cultivating strong business relationships that establish Tyson Foods as the essential partner for category management needs.
- Serving as omnichannel subject matter expert on Meijer teams through in-depth understanding of applicable sales data sources, loyalty data and the customer’s category go-to-market strategies in store and online.
- Analysis of category, competitive and market trends utilizing syndicated data (IRI/NielsenIQ), retailer shopper card data, and additional insight and data sources.
- Use of generally available and proprietary programs to find, analyze and communicate insights, including programs such as Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI and industry resources such as IRI/NielsenIQ, shopper and panel data, promotional tracking tools and eCommerce auditing software, and Dunnhumby Shop On (retailer shopper card data).
- Developing insight-based recommendations based on analysis of shelf space and assortment in-store and online through proprietary tools and resources.
- Developing and presenting category reviews, business reviews, new item presentations and executive-level top-to-top presentations with cross functional partners to customer and internal stakeholders.
- Providing reoccurring and ongoing reporting and scorecards to customers and sales team against key goals (KPIs) and initiatives.
- Ensuring optimal return for category data, insight and resource investments with Meijer.
- Playing a part in driving Tyson’s Category Leadership team performance, development, and impact through socialization of best practices and perspective with colleagues in formal and informal forums.
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Management, Data Analytics or related field preferred.
- Experience: 5+ years in Category Management, analytic-heavy Sales roles, Marketplace Analytics, Shopper Insights or Consumer Insights. Experience with fast-moving consumer goods or grocery industry a plus.
- Technical Skills: advanced skills in Excel & PowerPoint required. PowerBI and PowerQuery a plus.
- Exceptional communication skills – verbal, written and presentation.
- Ability to distill complex data into understandable, actionable stories.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative, indispensable partnerships with customers and internal business partners across functional teams.
- Strong planning and organization skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Working knowledge of retail merchandising and in store/online execution tactics.
- Willingness to travel 10-25% of the time for customer meetings and internal meetings (varies based on location relative to customer).
