TheatreSquared is seeking teaching artists. Teaching artists will oversee the planning and instruction of classes/camps for students aged junior high to adult (18+) in a range of theatre techniques and skills set. We are currently hiring for our classes and camps. The theatre welcomes applicants of all backgrounds, and candidates who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) are strongly encouraged to apply.

As an enthusiastic, early-career theatre professional—and as a positive, collaborative member of an inclusive workforce—this new staff member will help TheatreSquared answer the question, “How can a theatre be an agent of social change—helping foster a community that is fundamentally more equitable?”

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop curriculum and teach classes in Acting, Improv, Shakespeare, Musical Theatre (acting, dance or voice), or Playwriting
  • Communicates and builds rapport with students, guardians, staff, teachers, and stakeholders
  • Maintains accurate records as required, including attendance and student medical and emergency information
  • Maintain Covid-19 safety practices in the classroom
  • Represent education programs both within T2 and outside of T2 in a professional manner
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in theatre, or equivalent work experience in related field
  • Experience teaching skills-based theatre classes to adults and/or young people
  • Full Covid-19 vaccination prior to the start date of the class/camp
  • Ability to pass a full background check

DESIRABLE SKILL SETS

  • Experience in curriculum design and development
  • Experience in standard teaching practices, including but not limited to classroom pedagogy, classroom management, and supervision for a variety of ages
  • Ability to work individually and as a team member
  • Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations such as student conflicts, parent/guardian concerns, or managing unexpected obstacles.

COMPENSATION

Compensation is highly competitive and commensurate with experience. This is an independent contractor position with an hourly wage of $20 - $35 per hour.

Now entering its 16th season, TheatreSquared’s challenging, heartfelt, and intimate productions reach 60,000 patrons each year, including more than 20,000 students and their teachers. T2 fills a crucial niche in the region’s cultural landscape as the only year-round, producing professional theatre within a 150-mile radius, operating on an annual budget of $6 million. TheatreSquared employs trained artists from across the country to create its 330 annual performances and is contracted with Actors' Equity Association.
