Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of 15-25 students, providing guidance to those students and their families throughout the college search and application process, including supporting students considering alternative paths and gap years

  • Develop a calendar of college counseling programming for students and families

  • Plan and teach college and career counseling classes for students in grades 9-12 as part of our Seminar program

  • Facilitate meetings between students and college representatives visiting the school

  • Engage in professional development through visiting college campuses, attending college counseling-related conferences and workshops, and staying informed on topics related to college admissions trends

  • Coordinate the calendar of standardized testing for students, including scheduling test dates, overseeing the administration of tests, and providing pre- and post-test counseling

  • Teach 1-2 classes as part of our academic curriculum and Year-End Survey term

  • Possibly serve as an advisor

  • Attend faculty meetings and participate in the school community by attending events and supporting students and colleagues

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of developmental and educational issues related to adolescents

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Three or more years of experience as a high school college counselor or college admissions officer.

  • Experience in independent schools a plus

Physical Requirements with or without accommodations:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach.

  • Must be able to lift or move up to 40 pounds at times.

  • Must be able to traverse classroom and adjust one’s tone and height, by bending, leaning, stooping or kneeling, in order to teach each child.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
