Job Title: Custodian
Reports to: Manager of Facilities
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Job Summary:
Duties/Responsibilities:
Empty and clean waste receptacles.
Clean school hallways, corridors, and classrooms by dusting sweeping, and mopping floors.
Vacuum, spot clean, and/or shampoo rugs or carpet.
Wash down bathrooms using a variety of cleaning liquids such as detergents and bleach.
Replenish toiletries such as soap, toilet paper, and towels.
Clean mirrors in bathrooms and ensure that floors and counters are disinfected properly.
Mix cleaning materials by following safe practices and dispose of any unused mixture in a safe manner.
Dust and polish all furniture in classrooms, offices, and waiting rooms.
Clean dining hall and disinfect and clean drinking fountains.
Handle minor repair and maintenance activities such as bulb replacement and floor buffing.
Move furniture, equipment, or fixtures as required.
Mow and trim green areas around the school buildings and ensure that school grounds are free from litter and debris.
Shovel and remove snow and ice from designated areas such as sidewalks, and entryways.
Assist in the setup and tear-down of decorations and furniture for school events and programs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances.
Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components.
Familiarity with basic landscaping and handyman practices.
Attention to detail and conscientiousness.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Education and Experience:
Be at least 18 years of age.
High school degree or equivalent education.
One year of experience preferred.
Physical Requirements with or without accommodations:
Must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds at times.
Bending, kneeling, and crouching.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of custodial equipment.
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.
Climb ladders and work from heights as necessary.
Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
