Job Summary
This role will create and support a team culture that drives operational excellence and delivers a superior member experience in our Fitness and Personal Training program. The Manager is responsible for recruiting and overseeing personal trainers, personal training clients, and matching clients with personal trainers to maximize revenue and member experience at both the Tyson Fitness Center and Jones Center Fitness Center. This position reports to the Programming Director and works collaboratively with the Guest Services, facilities, and operations staff. The Fitness and Personal Training Manager is goal-oriented, results-driven, eager to interact with members, and excited to develop and manage a team of high-performing talent. Duties include coordinating all personal training appointments, assisting with member retention in this program, and providing direction and instruction to staff involved in the personal training program.
The position requires flexible working hours, possibly including evenings and weekends. Due to peak-season demand, vacation requests are generally not approved in January. This position has been identified as a 'Safety Sensitive' position.
Main Responsibilities
- Recruit, train, and manage personal trainers. Conduct regular 1-on-1 meetings to review performance against key metrics and drive continuing education.
- Drive sales of training packages. Lead members' onboarding and introductory consultation to convert new gym members into personal training clients.
- Supervise the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator and oversee contract fitness instructors.
- Ensure trainers build customized results-driven workout programs and maintain high client engagement to minimize churn.
- Manage Personal Training payroll for both the Tyson Fitness Center and Jones Center Fitness Center.
- Work with the department’s director to develop policies and procedures for the personal training program.
- Regularly update knowledge of personal training practices and stay familiar with the latest personal training trends.
- Communicate and implement Jones Center policies and procedures to trainers and encourage them to work as a team and be productive.
- Create team accountability through structured timelines, action plans, and required documentation.
- Achieve monthly and annual department financial goals.
- Plan activities in alignment with department objectives and initiatives.
- Create and implement an athletic small group training program.
- Personal train for 15 hours a week.
