Job Summary
The Fitness and Wellness Coordinator will create and support a team culture that drives operational excellence and delivers superior experience. The role is responsible for overseeing and coordinating fitness programs, fitness center staff, and contract fitness instructors. This position reports to the Fitness and Personal Training Manager and works collaboratively with the Programming Director, Recreation staff and Guest Services staff. The Fitness and Wellness Coordinator is goal-oriented, results-driven, eager to interact with members, and excited to develop and manage a team of high-performing talent. Duties include coordinating all fitness-related programs and events, assisting with member retention programs, and providing direction and instruction to staff involved in monitoring fitness center users.
The position requires flexible working hours, possibly including evenings and weekends. Due to peak-season demand, vacation requests are generally not approved in January. This position has been identified as a 'Safety Sensitive' position.
Main Responsibilities
- Coordinate group fitness programs, schedule instructors, and oversee the delivery of programs.
- Collaborate with the Fitness and Personal Training Manager and Guest Services to help train, supervise, and educate fitness center staff and members.
- Recruit group exercise staff and instruct them in the safe use of equipment and in accepted exercise protocols for various program participants.
- Recruit and supervise student workers, providing realistic and helpful fitness and education experiences and the opportunity to interact with program participants.
- Work with the department’s manager and director to develop policies and procedures for group exercise classes.
- Regularly update knowledge of health education practices, nutrition, and exercise, and stay familiar with the latest fitness trends.
- Oversee maintenance of fitness equipment and ensure the center meets standards for cleanliness, safety, and security.
- Communicate and implement Jones Center policies and procedures to team members and encourage staff to work as a team and be productive.
- Communicate effectively by holding check-ins and individual meetings with all key group exercise personnel.
- Create team accountability through structured timelines, action plans, and required documentation.
- Achieve monthly and annual department financial goals by strategically planning weekly activities in alignment with department objectives and initiatives.
- Ensure all fitness center staff are adequately trained and prepared for emergencies.
- Oversee fitness events like the Indoor Triathlon or Pickle-looza Pickleball Tournament.
- Teach 10 hours of group exercise per week.
- Manage and facilitate the Club 55 program, including both onsite meetings and offsite field trips and activities.
