ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

A young nonprofit food hub serving the Northwest Arkansas region seeks a Bookkeeper to provide the organization with accounting services and support.

Spring Creek Food Hub works to increase access to local products through aggregation and distribution to wholesale markets and directly to community members, educates farmers and buyers, and improves economic, environmental, and community health of our region’s food system. This multi-faceted organization requires a skilled bookkeeper with a keen attention to detail, willing to pitch in wherever help is needed, and can be the administrative glue that holds the organization together.

JOB DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for a variety of tasks related to coordinating activities of Spring Creek Food Hub. Primary activities include bookkeeping and accounting tasks and coordinating the office. This person must be detail-oriented, customer-service oriented, and able to juggle a variety of tasks at one time. This position is full-time in person, with the potential for hybrid work.

Bookkeeping and Financial Reporting 80%

  • Perform or provide oversight for routine financial activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, electronic banking, monthly reconciliations, and end-of-month reporting
  • Maintain internal control systems and databases; allocate and post financial transaction details to subsidiary books; complete filing system to support financial records
  • Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and ad hoc financial analyses that support fiscal oversight, development efforts, and board communications
  • Maintain records of financial transactions
  • Post transactions, including purchases, sales and invoices
  • Prepare financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends
  • Coordinate direct to consumer sales (tracking purchase and sales, issue refunds as needed, etc.)
  • Liaison to external accountant for monthly reporting and tax preparation

Office Coordination Support 20%

  • Manage supplies, answer phones, IT basics, support overall office administration as needed
  • Support communication and coordination with direct-to-consumer distribution sites
  • Support Value Chain / Sales Manager, Farmer Relations Manager, and Warehouse Manager to ensure smooth procurement and delivery of products as needed, including front office support, facilitate communication with growers and buyers as needed,
  • Support Executive Director as needed, including but not limited to grant writing support, grant reporting, and other operation tasks as may be required

This organization is a small non-profit where a “pitch-in” spirit is expected. Assistance on additional projects or tasks may be required in addition to normal responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Comfortable working in Excel, Google Sheets and QuickBooks Online
  • Strong work ethic, naturally organized, excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Customer service experience, excellent telephone skills, highly effective communicator


Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience in an accounting or controller position at a mission driven organization or accounting firm responsible for non-profit clients
  • Spanish or Marshallese language fluency
  • General knowledge of the sustainable food and agriculture sector
  • Experience with E-commerce and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Role performs tasks in both outdoor and indoor environments.
  • Exposures encountered include extreme cold (inside cold storage units), warehouse operations equipment, hazardous cleaning chemicals.
  • Essential physical requirements include standing, sitting, typing, driving, speaking.
  • Position could occasionally require operation of heavy equipment such as pallet jack, forklift, and other warehouse operations equipment.
  • Physical effort/lifting including sedentary – up to 10 pounds; light – up to 20 pounds; medium – up to 50 pounds; and some heavy – over 50 pounds.
  • Work periods include Monday through Friday, some weekends and nights, and available for after-hours emergencies or on-call as a regular part of the job.
  • Local and potential in state travel requirements.
  • Continuous reading, writing, and speaking, positive attitude, ability to recall and remember information, work well with others and work under stress.

COMPENSATION: this position is salaried $55,000 annually
