POSITION TITLE: K-5 General Music Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold proper certification through the Arkansas Department of

Education

REPORTS TO: Principal, Assistant Principals and Fine Arts Coordinator

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190 days with benefits provided according to Siloam Springs

School Board policies.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Responsible for teaching music education to students in grades K-5, and assists the staff of the school in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction. Helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences including singing, moving to music, playing of instruments and listening.

  1. Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the music curriculum to the needs of each student.
  2. Encourage students to develop individual musical skills to the greatest extent possible.
  3. Utilize a repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
  4. Work collaboratively with content team (Professional Learning Community) and interdisciplinary team.
  5. Implement a variety of effective, research-based instructional strategies consistently to engage learners with the essential learning standards.
  6. Design instructional plans with attention to individual student abilities and interests.
  7. Monitor and assess student progress frequently, using both formative and summative assessments, and provide progress reports as requested.
  8. Adjust instruction within the classroom (Tier I) to meet the needs of all learners, re-teaching when needed and extending learning for others.
  9. Create a classroom environment that reflects respectful interactions between students and teachers, as well as student-to-student, while using effective procedures to support all learners.
  10. Effectively implement district initiatives.
  11. Maintain consistent and timely parent communication using appropriate structures and resources.
  12. Meet or exceed professional responsibilities and professional behavior expectations.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
  2. Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  3. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  4. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  5. Serve on committees as assigned.
  6. Remain current on instructional practices in education.
