POSITION TITLE: K-5 General Music Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold proper certification through the Arkansas Department of
Education
REPORTS TO: Principal, Assistant Principals and Fine Arts Coordinator
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190 days with benefits provided according to Siloam Springs
School Board policies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for teaching music education to students in grades K-5, and assists the staff of the school in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction. Helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences including singing, moving to music, playing of instruments and listening.
- Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the music curriculum to the needs of each student.
- Encourage students to develop individual musical skills to the greatest extent possible.
- Utilize a repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
- Work collaboratively with content team (Professional Learning Community) and interdisciplinary team.
- Implement a variety of effective, research-based instructional strategies consistently to engage learners with the essential learning standards.
- Design instructional plans with attention to individual student abilities and interests.
- Monitor and assess student progress frequently, using both formative and summative assessments, and provide progress reports as requested.
- Adjust instruction within the classroom (Tier I) to meet the needs of all learners, re-teaching when needed and extending learning for others.
- Create a classroom environment that reflects respectful interactions between students and teachers, as well as student-to-student, while using effective procedures to support all learners.
- Effectively implement district initiatives.
- Maintain consistent and timely parent communication using appropriate structures and resources.
- Meet or exceed professional responsibilities and professional behavior expectations.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
- Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
- Serve on committees as assigned.
- Remain current on instructional practices in education.
