Description

Job Title: SVP- Corporate Controller

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

FLSA Status: Exempt (salary)

Job Summary:

The position of the Controller is the chief operational accounting expert, primarily concerned with ensuring smooth day-to-day accounting and financial operations. Specifically, the Controller is expected to:

Essential Duties, Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Exhibit a sense of urgency to provide the finest of customer service at all times and in all forms of verbal and written communications
  • Development, implement and monitor accounting policies and procedures; monitor to ensure they are working as intended
  • Build and manage day-to-day accounting operations (e.g. GL, accounts payable, fixed assets, payroll, etc.)
  • Create accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with GAAP
  • Implement and oversee all accounting software; ensure proper controls and completeness of data
  • Analyze budget to actual activity and investigate discrepancies; work with business partner(s) as expert to make any needed business changes going forward
  • Prepare and review bank external reporting in accordance with FDIC and State reporting guidelines
  • Prepare and review internal management reporting (including market and segment reporting) along with tax reports in a timely and accurate manner and in accordance with guidelines
  • Manage the quarterly and annual audit processes
  • Support strategic organizational initiatives
  • Back-up (secondary responsibilities for custodian of funds, securities, and assets of the organization
  • Create efficiencies within the department for "best in class" performance
  • Develop and manage direct reports
  • Create a personal development program and implement, including networking with other bank Controllers and implementing best practices
  • Comply with all department and company policies and procedures
  • Perform other tasks requested by the CFO as they relate to the bank and its functions.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Staff Accountant and Accounting Specialist


Compliance:
All Team Members are accountable for compliance with all laws, regulations and adherence to established internal controls and procedures when performing their job duties. Each Team Member is expected to be familiar with the legal and regulatory requirements and internal controls affecting his or her job responsibilities. It is the affirmative duty of each Team Member to carry out these responsibilities at all times in a manner that complies with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements and internal controls. All Team Members shall be responsible for communicating upward, problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, or other policy violations or illegal actions. Team Members must participate in required training on pertinent compliance laws and regulations as required by Signature Bank of Arkansas.

All Team Members will be committed to maintaining a high level of compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and Anti Money Laundering, USA PATRIOT Act and Financial Recordkeeping regulations recognizing that all three acts are important tools in federal efforts to combat organized crime, terrorism and drug trafficking.


Education / Experience:

  • College degree in accounting or finance required
  • Experience in preparing budgets required
  • At least 3 years of managing people required
  • CPA and/or MBA preferred
  • Prior banking experience preferred

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively communicate courteously and professionally in English (both written and oral) before groups of customers, team members, and management of the Bank.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to utilize all necessary software applications including Microsoft Office.
  • Solid mathematical and financial skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel user
  • Strong listening and organizational skills with the ability to effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong management ability with excellent planning capability.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills with ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from team members and management.
  • Sound reasoning and judgment skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and work well in a team environment.
