Position Title: Retail Store Specialist

Reports to: Sr Manager Retail & Guest Services

Classification

Type: part-time, non-exempt position

Schedule: Approximately 20 hours a week with occasional weekends, events, and holidays.

Minimum starting hourly rate OR Salary: $13.00/hr

Scott Family Amazeum Overview

The Scott Family Amazeum is a hands-on, interactive museum in Northwest Arkansas and recognized as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. We create a fun environment where risk taking, imagining, problem solving, discovery, collaboration, and exploration bring children and adults together to learn and grow.

Core Purpose: The Amazeum exists to spark and nurture the curious and creative spirit in all of us.

Through experiences with the Amazeum, individuals and the community are engaged in building relationships and developing identities as creative, curious, and innovative shapers for the region. Learning at the Amazeum is an active, playful exploration that inspires curiosity. It is rooted in inquiry-based discovery and involves an element of risk. Hands-on learning opportunities allow guests to exercise critical thinking in the context of play.

The Amazeum facility includes approximately 50,000 square feet of indoor space and one acre of outdoor exhibition and activity space. The museum is located at the intersection of Museum Way and J Street in Bentonville, AR.

Position Summary

The Retail Store Specialist (RSS) plays a crucial role in enhancing the guest experience by ensuring an engaging and informative retail environment. This position involves direct interaction with guests, merchandise management, and collaborative efforts to align store operations with the museum’s mission and events.

Essential Functions

  • Guest Engagement: Provide exceptional service by greeting and assisting all museum guests, answering questions, and handling sales and payments.
  • Product Expertise: Become an expert on store merchandise by actively learning about products, reaching out to vendors for detailed information, and effectively communicating product stories to team members and guests.
  • Data Management: Classify and manage product data within Shopify, including product categorization and collection creation.
  • Inventory Management: Assist with inventory tasks, including checking in, pricing, storing merchandise, aligning inventory with accounting records, and conducting monthly inventory audits and semi-annual physical inventory counts/reconciliations.
  • Training: Collaborate with the retail leadership team to develop and deliver training sessions for retail associates on best practices.
  • Product and Event Alignment: Stay informed about new products and museum events, ensuring store merchandising aligns with special programs and exhibits.
  • E-Commerce Management: Drive e-commerce sales by managing and updating content on the museum store's online platform.
  • Content Creation: Participate in creating and optimizing digital and non-digital marketing content, including blog posts, videos, and product marketing collateral.
  • Marketing Collaboration: Work with the Marketing team to ensure brand-aligned content and promote store products and events across departments.
  • Community Engagement: Assist the retail manager in developing and running retail engagement programs like the local maker program and offsite markets.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ - year of retail or customer service experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in using point-of-sale systems
  • Proficient computer skills, including utilizing Google Workspace

Physical Requirements

  • Mobility: Must be able to move about the retail space to assist guests, restock merchandise, and access inventory storage areas.
  • Stationary Work: Ability to remain in a stationary position (standing or sitting) for extended periods, particularly during guest interactions and point-of-sale operations.
  • Manual Dexterity: Regularly operates point-of-sale systems, computers, and other office equipment, requiring precise hand movements.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Frequently moves merchandise and materials weighing up to 25 pounds across the store and storage areas.
  • Visual Acuity: Must be able to visually inspect merchandise and read information on labels, screens, and printed materials.
  • Communication: Effectively communicates with guests and team members, conveying information clearly and responding to inquiries.
  • Environmental Conditions: Occasionally exposed to varying indoor temperatures and lighting conditions within the retail and storage spaces.

Preferred Skills:

  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field.
  • Proficient user in Shopify for POS, Inventory Management, and E-Commerce
  • Advanced proficiency in using retail management software and e-commerce platforms.
  • Experience in financial and/or retail technology to include data analytics and reporting.
  • Experience in digital content creation and marketing.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver training programs.
  • Experience in community engagement and event planning
  • Experience with project management methodologies and systems
  • Experience in a museum or educational setting.
  • Bilingual skills
