Scott Family Amazeum Overview

The Scott Family Amazeum is a hands-on, interactive museum in Northwest Arkansas and recognized as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. We create a fun environment where risk taking, imagining, problem solving, discovery, collaboration, and exploration bring children and adults together to learn and grow.

Core Purpose: The Amazeum exists to spark and nurture the curious and creative spirit in all of us.

Through experiences with the Amazeum, individuals and the community are engaged in building relationships and developing identities as creative, curious, and innovative shapers for the region. Learning at the Amazeum is an active, playful exploration that inspires curiosity. It is rooted in inquiry-based discovery and involves an element of risk. Hands-on learning opportunities allow guests to exercise critical thinking in the context of play.

The Amazeum facility includes approximately 50,000 square feet of indoor space and one acre of outdoor exhibition and activity space. The museum is located at the intersection of Museum Way and J Street in Bentonville, AR.

Position Summary

The Amazeum seeks a Marketing and Communications Coordinator with excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal and visual communication skills. The successful candidate will be both a self-starter who knows how to take initiative, and a collaborative colleague who can work effectively in a very team-centered, rapidly changing environment. Strong project management, organizational skills are important.

Under the supervision of the Senior Manager, Marketing and Communications (SMMC), the Marketing and Communications Coordinator (MCC) will develop and implement a strategic media digital content and media plan. The MCC will manage multiple projects on an ongoing basis, working across departments to gather content and feedback in order to meet deadlines. The MCC will also support the communications department with message development, social media calendar, writing news releases and media monitoring. This role will create awareness, enable greater understanding and promote interest in the Amazeum objectives and initiatives.

The MCC will work closely with the SMMC, Chief Philanthropy Officer, Membership Manager, Production Artist, Chief Executive Officer, other members of the Communications and Marketing team, Leadership team and programming staff. This role will also work with vendors, designers, media buyers, print shops, and consultants to complete projects in a timely manner.

Essential Functions

  • In conjunction with the SMMC, develop, implement and assess a comprehensive, year-round digital marketing plan that aligns with overall strategic communications and marketing strategy.
  • In conjunction with SMMC, manage the Amazeum's digital communication channels including, blog and social media outlets with the goal of increasing the frequency of new content.
  • Coordinate, schedule and development of engaging online content for blog, e-newsletter and social media by working across multiple departments to gather content that is in line with the Marketing plan.
  • Track and analyze data to report results of external communications activity including media coverage, social media activity, and website traffic.
  • Research and write engaging content in Amazeum's online voice for various digital platforms.
  • Write, edit and collaborate external communications with stakeholders and the general public.
  • Work with the SMMC to write and send recurring press releases and coordinate with media representatives.
  • Keep abreast of new social platforms and online marketing making recommendations for the continued improvement of Amazeum's digital marketing and communications strategy as appropriate.
  • Manage and facilitate ad placement in relevant periodicals and digital outlets.
  • Manage schedule of Marketing print projects (signs, banners, etc.) ensuring approval process is followed and deadlines are met.
  • Assist SMMC to respond to media inquiries.
  • Coordinate press conferences, photo opportunities, recognition events, and other special events in conjunction with Communications and Development team.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Knowledge of social media platforms
  • Experience using email marketing tools
  • Experience in desktop publishing using Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, or a similar program
  • Project management skills and strong planning, organizational, and administrative skills
  • Excellent literacy, writing, editing, and proofing skills, and outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
  • 2+ years of experience in a related field

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally (e.g., event materials, signage, print collateral).
  • Frequent movement within the museum environment, including navigating stairs, event spaces, and outdoor areas.
  • Visual acuity to accurately proofread documents and assess digital and print media.
  • Ability to set up and break down marketing/event displays, which may involve bending, lifting, or carrying items.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and in written formats.
  • Occasional local travel for media or outreach events; must have reliable transportation.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in advanced social media including ad sets, data analytics, and engagement
  • Digital media experience (SEO, Google ads, SEM)
  • Bilingual - conversational and written Spanish
  • Experience with Web Content Management System
  • Experience with Prospect 2 and Tessitura
  • Experience working for a non-profit organization
  • Ability to manage complex tasks, challenging projects and competing deadlines concurrently
  • Collaborative working style with an ability to work within a team in a hands-on capacity to achieve individual, team and organizational goals.
