Scott Family Amazeum Overview

The Scott Family Amazeum is a hands-on, interactive museum in Northwest Arkansas and recognized as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. We create a fun environment where risk taking, imagining, problem solving, discovery, collaboration, and exploration bring children and adults together to learn and grow.

Amazeum Mission: To engage the imagination of children and their families through interactive exhibits, programs, and resources while creating an excitement for lifelong learning and the enrichment of lives.

Through experiences with the Amazeum, individuals and the community are engaged in building relationships and developing identities as creative, curious, and innovative shapers for the region. Learning at the Amazeum is an active, playful exploration that inspires curiosity. It is rooted in inquiry-based discovery and involves an element of risk. Hands-on learning opportunities allow guests to exercise critical thinking in the context of play.

The Amazeum facility includes approximately 50,000 square feet of indoor space and one acre of outdoor exhibition and activity space. The museum is located at the intersection of Museum Way and J Street in Bentonville, AR.

Position Summary

The Amazeum Exhibits Team seeks a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join us as an Exhibit Technician Assistant. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of the technical and operational aspects of maintaining a dynamic, interactive, hands-on museum.

The Exhibit Technician Assistant will address technical challenges and ensure the proper maintenance of our exhibits, contributing to a consistently extraordinary experience for our guests. This role requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with the Exhibits Team to overcome various technical obstacles and meticulously document progress and solutions.

In addition to exhibit care, the Exhibit Technician Assistant will support the upkeep of the Fabrication Shop and assist with other projects as needed. We seek someone who is detail-oriented, proactive, and eager to contribute to the ongoing success of the Amazeum.

Essential Functions

  • Repair exhibits in a timely and professional manner.
  • Give regular progress updates and archive their solutions to technical problems in our records for institutional memory.
  • Routinely clean and maintain exhibits and props to ensure continued high-quality operation
  • Activate Exhibits before opening and ensure their continued performance throughout the day.
  • Contribute to Fabrication Shop clean-up and equipment maintenance
  • Assist with special projects as needed
  • Enhances guest experience, responds positively to guest questions regarding exhibits, daily activities and museum information
  • Ensures guest safety and maintains a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment at all times

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • 16+ years or older
  • High School Diploma or equivalent OR current high school student working towards their diploma or equivalent (junior grade level or above)
  • Basic knowledge and skill in hand tool and power tool use.
  • Able to follow instructions related to mechanical repair, cleaning, and other maintenance-related tasks
  • Demonstrated success in guest engagement/customer service
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to solve technical problems effectively under pressure
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as within a team
  • Valid driver's license, current auto insurance, and reliable personal transportation

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and interact with children and adults
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs overhead regularly and occasionally 40 lbs
  • Ability to work in an environment with moderate to excessive noise

Preferred Skills:

  • Working towards or plan on working towards BS/BA/AA, certificate, or apprenticeship in a technical, creative, or related field.
  • Capacity to be spontaneous and interact positively with guests
  • Ability to balance shifting priorities in a dynamic, fast paced, and ever-changing environment
  • Team player with a strong focus on creativity, fun, and innovation
  • Experience in a workshop or studio environment
