The Maintenance Specialist is responsible for maintaining buildings, grounds, and equipment. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

• Performs semi-skilled maintenance and repairs to interior/exterior of buildings.

• Preparation and painting of interior/exterior of buildings and parking lots.

• Maintaining and minor repairs to plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems.

• Perform drywall and carpentry work.

• Assist skilled trades with repairs and maintenance.

• Perform any other related duties as assigned. ​

Rate of Pay: $15.00 per hour (up to 19 hours per week)

Minimum Education/Experience

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus two years of experience or training in the building construction trades, general building maintenance, or in the repair or maintenance of mechanical equipment.

Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education..

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of basic carpentry, electrical systems, plumbing, painting.

Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and safety requirements of motorized vehicles and equipment.

Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on motorized vehicles and equipment.

Ability to perform routine building and grounds maintenance work.

Ability to operate and maintain tools and machinery.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

The position requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy materials and objects weighing up to 100 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment. Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Must be able to work during different weather climates; to include hot/cold weather, rain, etc. Must possess mobility to work in and around buildings and facilities, to operate a motor vehicle and drive on surface streets; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work, to work in confined spaces and around machines, to climb and descend ladders, and to operate varied hand and power tools and equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio.
