The Corporal position is to perform all the duties of a Campus Police Officer as outlined in the Campus Police Officer Job Description. In addition, the Corporal will serve as a shift supervisor in the absence of the sergeant. The Corporal can be assigned, additional duties and responsibilities related to but not limited to department training, criminal investigations and public relations. NWACC Police and Public Safety will have 4 designated Corporal positions and their duties and assignment is determined by the Chief of Police. If there are more than one officer qualified for a corporal position an interview process will be used with the command staff.

Essential Duties

  • Protects students, faculty/staff and property.
  • Prevents crime on campus. .
  • Enforces college rules and policies.
  • Provides building security, locks and unlocks doors as scheduled and provides building checks.
  • Reports and records crimes and violations.
  • Ensures traffic safety on campus.
  • Assists and directs students as needed.
  • Provides emergency services and stays abreast of inclement weather conditions.
  • Escorts faculty and students to as needed.
  • Monitors building access.
  • Carries assigned duty weapon and police radio.
  • Participates in and will help coordinate training to include physical training and firearms.
  • Provides leadership of patrol, investigation, traffic control, personnel training, and public relations as directed by the Sergeant.
  • Can be assigned as Training coordinator at the direction of the Chief of Police.
  • Can be assigned as the Criminal Investigations Division lead Investigator at the direction of the Chief of Police.
  • Can be assigned as needed, by the Chief of Police, to any patrol shift or NWACC location and will perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Rate of Pay: $18.40 per hour

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of traffic laws, rules and regulations, for security. Knowledge of general law enforcement methods and techniques. Ability to direct traffic and to maintain order. Ability to prepare reports of incidents and accidents. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to operate motor vehicles used in patrol duties.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have 5 years of full-time Police experience, military police experience is accepted.
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year with NWACC PD as a law enforcement officer
  • Must have General Certificate from AR. CLEST.
  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma.
  • Must possess valid Arkansas driver’s license and have a safe driving record.
  • Be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment
  • Be able to pass a Mental and Physical examination
  • Be free of a Felony Conviction(s)
  • Be free of Domestic Violence conviction in accordance with 18 USC section 922
  • Be a US Citizen
  • Be of good character as determined by thorough background investigation

Special Job Dimensions

  • Occasional exposure to hazardous and/or stressful situations.
  • Shift work to include all weekends and all holidays.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time in indoor settings, outdoor settings, and in all weather conditions at all times of day.
  • Ability to give chase on foot and apprehend and detain subjects as permitted by law.
  • Must be able to perform all job-related duties while wearing required uniform and duty equipment to include a body armor vest.
  • Must be able to be recalled for duty at all times in case of emergency.
