THE POSITION:
The Facilities Maintenance Technician is a key position responsible for building, equipment, vehicle, and grounds maintenance reporting directly to the Vice President of Operations. The Technician performs routine maintenance and repairs on building systems, equipment, vehicles, and structures to ensure a safe and functional environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform scheduled and emergency repairs on plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
- Fix or replace items such as light fixtures, office furniture, and doors; completing carpentry, painting, and drywall tasks.
- Address general repairs and maintenance to the building's interior and exterior, including landscaping and snow removal.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues.
- Conduct safety inspections, ensuring all systems comply with safety standards, and respond to urgent issues like power outages or leaks.
- Follow a scheduled program to prevent equipment failures.
- Landscaping responsibilities focus on maintaining the aesthetic and safety of the Agency’s outdoor areas.
- Perform inspections of company vehicles to check brakes, lights, fluid levels, and tire pressure. Address minor maintenance needs, such as changing oil and maintain logs for routine service, inspections, and repair needs. Schedule more complex maintenance and repairs with qualified external specialists.
- Participate in Warehouse activities such as organization, erecting or moving shelving, and other activities.
- Respond to urgent issues while also maintaining a schedule of preventive maintenance.
- Ability to drive Agency vehicles; including 15 passenger van’s, box trucks, and other vehicles (CDL not required).
- Maintain working area in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes
- A strong working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
- Ability to safely operate a variety of hand and power tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and repair systems effectively.
- Manual dexterity and the physical stamina to perform manual tasks and work in various environments, which may include extreme conditions.
- Ability to read and understand building plans, specifications, and safety guidelines.
- Good organizational skills, the ability to work independently, and strong communication skills.
- Maintains confidentiality and privacy regarding all residents' information in accordance with shelter policy and all applicable federal and state laws/regulations.
- Carry out work tasks in a way that conforms to and supports the mission, vision, and values of the shelter as well as professional and ethical standards
- Establish effective professional relationships with peers, support staff, volunteers, supervisors, and other professionals.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Twenty-one years of age or older.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must pass all criminal history and child maltreatment background checks.
- Must submit to a pre-employment drug screen, as well as random drug screens when directed.
- Valid driver's license, proof of personal automobile insurance, and acceptable driving record required to drive shelter vehicles for shelter business.
Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands
- Tasks may involve walking, standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and lifting for long periods of time.
- Must be able to climb, operate power equipment, stoop, bend, work in cramped places.
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Work performed indoors and outdoors, in inclement and seasonal weather.
- Must maintain confidentiality and privacy regarding all Children’s Shelter residents' information in accordance with NWACS policy and all applicable Federal and state laws/regulations.
- Attend and participate in mandatory training, staff meetings, and all other events, as required.
- Set, maintain, and communicate appropriate personal and professional boundaries.
- Complete all required documentation in a timely manner per NWACS procedures.
