ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION: Established in 1993, NWACS is a private, non-profit organization. Our 32-bed, state-of-the-art residential Shelter provides 24-hour emergency care for children throughout Arkansas who are victims of abandonment, abuse or neglect. Building on three decades of experience working with children and trauma, in 2020 our work expanded with the opening of Hope Academy, the first trauma-centered open enrollment charter school in the state of Arkansas. Our work centers around positive trauma-informed practices and takes a comprehensive, whole child approach to care and education; creating a stable, safe and loving environment in which the hundreds of children who walk through our doors each year can begin to heal.

THE POSITION: Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Maintenance Technician works to preserve the good condition of infrastructure and ensure that facilities are safe and well-functioning. Key Responsibilities To include but not limited to the following: ● Manage the upkeep of equipment, vehicles and supplies to meet health and safety standards ● Inspect building structures to determine the need for immediate/future repairs or renovations ● Supervise facilities volunteers, external contractors and identify opportunities for volunteers to utilize their skills to help carry out the duties of the position ● Control activities like parking space allocation, waste disposal, building security etc. ● Respond promptly to safety concerns, while maintaining applicable safety standards ● Maintain a routine maintenance checklist and document completion of tasks ● As needed, lawn and landscaping tasks and inclement weather preparedness ● As needed, repaint and repair NWACS building interior and exterior walls and outbuildings. ● Assemble and/or repair such items as child riding toys, bikes, playing equipment, etc. ● Assist with the transportation of donations as needed ● Attend and participate in mandatory trainings, staff meetings, and all other events, as required. ● Complete all required documentation in a timely manner per agency procedures. Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes ● Maintains confidentiality and privacy regarding all residents' information in accordance to shelter policy and all applicable federal and state laws/regulations. ● Maintains a clean and organized workspace ● Carries out work tasks in a way that conforms to and supports the mission, vision, and values of the shelter as well as professional and ethical standards ● Establish effective professional relationships with peers, support staff, volunteers, supervisors, and other professionals. ● Basic proficiency in use of computers and software ● Effective oral and written communication skills ● Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills ● Flexibility, reliability, and self-motivation ● Must be able to climb, operate power equipment, stoop, bend, work in cramped places ● Work performed indoors and outdoors, and in inclement and seasonal weather ● Tasks may involve walking, standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and lifting for long periods
Minimum Qualifications ● Twenty-one years of age or older. ● High school diploma or equivalent ● Physical stamina and agility to perform indoor and outdoor work ● Ability to lift at least 50 pounds. ● Must pass all criminal history and child maltreatment background checks. ● Must submit to a pre-employment drug screen as well as random drug screens when directed. ● Valid driver's license, proof of personal automobile insurance, and acceptable driving record.
Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands The demands described are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. ● Tasks may involve walking, standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and lifting for long periods of time. ● Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. ● Must pass all criminal history and child maltreatment background checks. ● Must submit to pre-employment a drug screen as well as random drug screens when directed. ● Valid driver's license, proof of personal automobile insurance, and acceptable driving record required to drive shelter vehicles for shelter business. ● Must maintain confidentiality and privacy regarding all Children’s Shelter residents' information in accordance with NWACS policy and all applicable Federal and state laws/regulations. ● Attend and participate in mandatory training, staff meetings, and all other events, as required. ● Set, maintain and communicate appropriate personal and professional boundaries. ● Complete all required documentation in a timely manner per NWACS procedures.
