The Monitoring Technician is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms. Reviews patient information to determine normal heart rhythm pattern, current pattern and prior variances. Works cooperatively as part of a team. Primary Responsibilities: Maintain high-level surveillance of patient cardiac rhythms, measure and interpret heart rhythms, and document per policy. Initiate/discontinue monitoring for admissions, transfers, and discharges. Perform clerical duties related to patient information and maintain clinical competence.
Safety & Risk Management: Troubleshoot monitors, follow confidentiality and patient rights policies, and comply with event reporting procedures.
Coordination of Services: Mentor new staff, maintain accurate census information, prioritize tasks effectively, and coordinate workflow with timely communication.
Communication Management: Answer calls professionally, communicate rhythm changes clearly to unit staff, and build cooperative relationships with nursing and clinical teams.
Technology: Perform unit-specific computer functions, report system issues, and stay updated on monitoring technology.
Professional Development: Demonstrate flexibility, seek learning opportunities, and maintain competency in monitoring systems.
Education: High school diploma, G.E.D. and/or current Mercy coworker. Monitor tech course completion and/or passing score of 85% on monitor tech competency exam.
Other: Basic computer skills. Attention to detail and ability to multi-task is essential. Excellent communication skills and ability to make quick decisions under pressure is a must.
Preferred Experience: Experience preferred but not mandatory.
Preferred Certifications: CRAT certification preferred.
