Overview

The phlebotomist/lab tech is responsible for collecting blood specimens and other laboratory samples from patients while providing excellent customer service and ensuring patient safety, comfort, and confidentiality. This position supports providers and laboratory operations by accurately processing specimens and maintaining proper documentation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all ages.
    • Correctly identify patients and label specimens according to established protocols.
    • Process, prepare, and transport laboratory specimens.
    • Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record and laboratory systems.
    • Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, CLIA, and infection control standards.
    • Monitor and maintain phlebotomy supplies and equipment.
    • Clean and disinfect work areas and equipment.
    • Assist patients who may experience anxiety, dizziness, or adverse reactions during blood draws.
    • Provide courteous and professional communication with patients, providers, and staff.
    • Follow safety procedures for handling biohazard materials and sharps
    • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent required
    • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program preferred
    • Previous phlebotomy experience preferred
    • Knowledge of specimen handling and laboratory safety procedures
    • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
    • Ability to work efficiently independently
