Overview

The GI Registered Nurse (RN) plays a key role in supporting physicians during gastroenterology procedures and patient examinations by ensuring exam rooms are properly prepared, equipment and supplies are available, and patient documentation is complete. This role is responsible for reviewing and adjusting daily schedules to ensure diagnostic results, records, and pertinent clinical information are available for provider review. The RN triages patients, assesses acuity, and coordinates same-day or urgent appointments to promote safe, efficient patient flow and high-quality care within the GI department.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physician in setting up for procedures and exams. Revise daily schedules to ensure records and results are available for physician review
  • Triage patients to ensure productive departmental flow and schedule acute patient appointments appropriately
  • Work with reception to schedule work-ins and ASAP appointments in a timely manner
  • Work closely with physicians and staff to implement and carry out updates, changes, protocols, etc.
  • E-prescribe medications as appropriate and sendin mail order prescriptions as needed. Monitor indigent drug programs and notify patients of such if needed.
  • Schedule diagnostic tests and procedures as requested. Complete precertification as determined by insurance. Notify hospital or testing facility of physicians' orders.
  • Provide patient education and perform teaching as indicated.
  • Communicate with reception changes to physician schedule; especially during call days and not taking any more appointments, etc

Qualifications

  • Graduate from Accredited Registered Nurse (RN) Program
  • Current state RN license
  • 12 to 18 months related experience and/or training
