Job Summary:

Under general direction, this position is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end payroll cycle, including system improvements, process updates, and policies. The incumbent provides subject matter expertise to existing payroll team members and stakeholders on the day-to-day processing of on- and off-cycle payroll for all of J.B. Hunt.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:
•Oversee, review and approve the day-to-day processing of on- and off-cycle payrolls for the entire organization, including drivers, office staff in U.S. and non-U.S. locations
•Perform periodic evaluations of internal payroll operations and external vendors to ensure alignment with current and future stakeholder needs
•Assist in managing employee related issues, which includes overpayment, late pay, and deductions
•Manage registrations for tax purposes (Federal, State, Local)
•Manage all payroll audits (internal, external), including working with state, local and federal agencies
•Work to continuously improve payroll processing, including opportunities for streamlining, efficiency improvements and cost reduction
•Manage day-to-day relationships with third-party vendors supporting payroll processing
•Review and approve local, state, and federal payroll tax returns and W-2s
•Complete or review general ledger functions including fluctuation analyses, reconciliations, and journal entries
•Prepare, administer and maintain fiscal year-end reports and ensure that they are properly and accurately reconciled for accuracy and completeness of the information
•Support partnership with other internal departments, business units and senior management to ensure the effective implementation of payroll policies
•Coordinate as needed with HR Centers of Expertise and HR Operations to ensure that human resources core services are delivered effectively and efficiently
•Implement and maintain SOX and similar controls with respect to the payroll cycle, including reviewing and updating payroll policies, flowcharts and internal controls
•Coach, mentor and train payroll team members to ensure that they perform work duties in accordance with standards and protocols
•Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Finance or related field with 2 or more years of related experience, education or training; or 6 years combined relevant experience, education and training.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Finance or related field with 3 or more years of related experience, education or training.
  • Experience in a call center environment, Payroll, Finance or Human Resources.
  • Ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment
  • Ability to be both flexible and adaptable
  • Ability to communicate effectively through all mediums
  • Ability to lead a team and motivate others
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities

Compensation:

Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position may be eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes in accordance with the terms of the Company’s bonus and incentive plans, as applicable and in effect from time to time.
