The Cellular Therapy Coordinator serves as the primary clinical liaison and navigator for patients undergoing cellular therapy in the outpatient community oncology setting. This role coordinates care across the continuum to include referral, eligibility evaluation, treatment planning, coordination of product collection and manufacturing, infusion, toxicity monitoring, and post-treatment follow-up.

The coordinator collaborates closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing, pharmacy, quality management, financial counseling, research, and external apheresis and manufacturing centers ensuring safe, timely, and seamless patient care.

Job Duties / Responsibilities:

Patient Coordination and Navigation

· Serve as the primary point of contact for patients and caregivers throughout the cellular therapy journey.

· Coordinate referrals and facilitate timely evaluation and treatment initiation.

· Provide education regarding cellular therapies, expected side effects, and treatment timelines.

· Ensure informed consent and patient readiness are completed before treatment.

· Coordinate appointments, diagnostics, laboratory studies, and consultations.

· Facilitate communication among patients, providers, caregivers, and external institutions.

Clinical Coordination

· Collaborate with physicians and APPs to develop individualized treatment plans.

· Coordinate leukapheresis, product manufacturing, lymphodepleting chemotherapy, infusion, and follow-up care.

· Monitor treatment timelines and maintain product manufacturing schedules.

· Assist with management and triage of toxicities, including cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS), in collaboration with providers.

· Ensure adherence to REMS requirements and manufacturer guidelines.

· Oversee inventory for the program.

Regulatory and Quality Responsibilities

· Maintain compliance with FACT, FDA, and institutional standards, as applicable.

· Support accreditation activities, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.

· Track key performance indicators and patient outcomes.

· Maintain accurate documentation and data collection required for regulatory reporting.

· Participate in development and maintenance of policies, procedures, and clinical pathways.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration

· Collaborate with pharmacy, infusion nursing, laboratory, financial counseling, social work, rehabilitation, and supportive care teams.

· Coordinate transitions between inpatient and outpatient settings.

· Participate in multidisciplinary conferences and case reviews.

· Serve as a resource for staff education and competency development regarding cellular therapies.

· Work closely with Clinical Educator on inpatient and outpatient staff education.

Patient Education and Support

· Educate patients and caregivers regarding:

o CAR-T and other cellular therapies.

o Treatment schedules and caregiver requirements.

o Infection prevention and supportive care.

o Recognition and reporting of adverse effects.

o Emergency precautions and follow-up requirements.

· Provide ongoing support and reinforce education throughout treatment.

Program Development

· Assist in developing and expanding cellular therapy services, including future therapies.

· Participate in process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient experience and operational efficiency.

Certifications/Licenses/Education/or Experience in a related field:

Education

· Registered Nurse. BSN preferred.

Licensure and Certifications

· Current Registered Nurse license.

· Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®) preferred.

· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

· Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.

Experience

· Minimum of 1 to 3 years of oncology nursing experience.

· Experience in hematology/oncology. Experience in stem cell transplant, CAR-T therapy, or cellular therapy preferred.

· Knowledge of cytokine release syndrome (CRS), ICANS, and cellular therapy toxicities required.

· Experience with regulatory standards and quality management processes preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Strong understanding of hematologic malignancies and cellular therapies.

· Excellent organizational and project management skills.

· Ability to coordinate complex care across multiple departments and external organizations.

· Strong patient education and communication skills.

· Ability to function independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

· Proficiency with electronic medical records and documentation systems.

· Commitment to patient-centered care, quality, and safety.

Physical Requirements:

• Sitting for prolonged periods of time at a desk.
• Computer use that requires visual acuity, typing, use of mouse/keyboard, and staring at a screen for extended periods of time.
• Occasionally lifting objects of up to 25 pounds such as files, office supplies, assisting patients when needed, etc.
• Walking and standing for continuous periods around the office or clinic as needed.
• Fine motor skills for tasks like typing, writing, handling small objects or equipment and materials.
• Adequate mobility for daily interactions, delivering packages throughout the clinic daily, and traveling between company locations as needed.
