HIGHLANDS ONCOLOGY GROUP
Controller
Finance Leadership · Full-Time · On-Site
About the Role
Highlands Oncology Group is seeking a Controller to lead and elevate our accounting operations as we continue to grow our impact on cancer care in the region. This is a hands-on leadership role at the intersection of operational rigor and strategic vision — you'll own the financial infrastructure of our practice while partnering closely with the CFO to drive performance, accountability, and scale.
This is not a back-office position. You'll be a trusted voice on the Finance Leadership Team, shaping how we build our people, processes, and systems for long-term sustainability. If you're energized by complexity, thrive in a mission-driven environment, and take pride in building something meaningful, we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Own
Finance Leadership & Strategy
- Partner with the CFO to build and mature the Finance function across people, processes, and technology to support the practice's current trajectory and future growth.
- Support the annual budgeting and planning cycle; monitor progress and surface material changes that affect financial performance and health.
- Produce the annual budget and rolling forecasts; report significant variances to leadership with clear context and recommendations.
- Provide financial analysis with emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
- Recommend benchmarks and KPIs to track and measure organizational performance.
Accounting Operations & Controls
- Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implement controls over accounting transactions to minimize financial and compliance risk.
- Oversee the production and timely dissemination of monthly financial reports, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
- Coordinate with the Corporate Accountant to maintain accurate routine accounting entries, deposits, refunds, invoicing, distributions, and reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal requirements, including sales taxes, franchise taxes, nonprofit reporting, and unclaimed property obligations.
Audit & Compliance
- Lead engagement with external auditors and serve as the primary point of contact for the annual financial audit.
- Actively manage audits of retirement plans, coding and billing, and financials.
- Prepare employee insurance and benefits proposals in coordination with the Benefits team.
Team Development
- Recruit, develop, and retain accounting and finance talent capable of scaling with the organization.
- Continuously improve financial modeling, forecasting, reporting, and accounting processes to support HOG's mission and growth objectives.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning by staying current on emerging accounting, finance, and healthcare industry trends through seminars, webcasts, and professional development.
- Perform other duties as needed in support of the Finance team's objectives.
Who You Are
- Passionate about healthcare and HOG's mission — you understand that the work you do directly supports exceptional patient care.
- A clear communicator who can translate complex financial data into insights that resonate with non-finance stakeholders.
- Comfortable with ambiguity; you lead through change and hold yourself and others accountable to outcomes.
- A deep thinker who asks hard questions, challenges assumptions, and brings intellectual honesty to every conversation.
- Empathetic and ego-free — you lead by lifting others up, not by asserting authority.
- Detail-oriented, but never loses sight of the bigger picture.
- Energized by building: systems, teams, and processes that didn't exist before.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation
- 10+ years of related experience
- Proficient in database and accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, MAS100, BI or similar)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
