We’re seeking a compassionate and skilled Advanced Practice Provider in Palliative Care to join our team working alongside a physician team. Highlands Oncology began in 1996 with three physicians and a desire to change the face of oncology care in our community. Dr. Malcolm Hayward, Dr. Dan Bradford, and Dr. Thad Beck knew that patients do better at home, in the community where they live and work, and where their support system is already in place. In furthering that goal, Highlands has grown with the region from a single location 26 years ago, to 6 locations in Northwest and Northcentral Arkansas today employing more than 800 diverse team members.

What you'll do:
- Provide comprehensive care to patients, including management of acute and chronic pain, as well as any distressing symptom related to disease process.
- Conduct goals of care discussion with patients and families.
- Assess physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of the patient.
- Appropriately order, review, and interpret laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
- Billing and documentation are consistently accurate and timely.
- Ability to work independently, while collaborating with Palliative Care Physicians and referring providers.
- Demonstrate knowledge of disease-specific and clinic protocols.
- Refer to support services, such as Social Work, Chaplain or other Allied Health staff as needed.
- Prescribe medication as per state licensing guidelines and physician scope of practice.
- Utilize resources such as CAPC, UpToDate, and ARPMP.
- Complies with company policies and procedures, and HIPAA regulations.
- Assists in the smooth functioning of the clinic in a cost-effective manner.
- Shall act within lawful limits of the Arkansas State Board of Nursing APRN Collaborative Practice Agreement or the Arkansas State Medical Board PA Collaborative Agreement.
- Responsible for keeping licenses, certifications, BLS, ACLS, and DEA current.
- Duties and responsibilities will continue to evolve and may change as deemed necessary, and as the role of the APRN and PA are further developed.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Proficient in obtaining HPI / Interval History, and Medical, Social, and Surgical History; Assessment, which includes Review of Systems and Physical exam; and Clinical Impression / Plan.
- Proficient in EMR utilization.
- Able to act with skill under stressful and / or in emergency situations.
- Capable of forming effective relationships with patients, families, the public, and other healthcare professionals.
- Working knowledge of MS Office platforms.
Certifications/Licenses/Education/or Experience in a related field:
- One or more years of experience, preferably for Palliative Care / Palliative Medicine.
- Certification in Palliative Care or Palliative Medicine preferred.
- Has appropriate licensure with the state of Arkansas. Maintains a current, unencumbered license(s), including DEA.
- Completes continuing education to maintain licensure and certification(s).
- Demonstrate ongoing professional growth through participation in relevant education and associations.
- Maintains current BLS and ACLS certifications.
Physical Requirements:
- Standing and Walking: Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Pushing and Pulling: Must be able to push and maneuver equipment and patient transport devices.
- Fine Motor Skills: Requires good hand-eye coordination to operate euipment and handle small objects.
- Bending and Reaching: Must bend, stoop, twist, and reach to position patients and operate equipment.
- Ability to lift, move, and assist as needed, often requiring more than 25 pounds.
- Repetitive Motions: Frequent use of hand and fingers for operating standard office equipment, clinic devices, and other common tasks associated with clerical and administrative tasks.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for palliative care serves as an expert clinician responsible for comprehensive assessment, clinical evaluation, and management of oncology and hematology patients in the outpatient setting. This role involves close collaboration with physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams while independently providing timely interventions, interpreting diagnostic studies, managing acute symptoms, and educating patients and families on treatment plans. The APP must be able to perform goals of care discussions, assess the physical, emotional and psychological well-being of the patient, prescribe medications within state guidelines and physician team scope, and utilize clinical resources like CAPC, UpToDate and ARPMP. Strong communication skills, proficiency in EMR and Microsoft Office, the ability to function effectively under stress, and the capacity to build strong therapeutic relationships are essential. Candidates must hold appropriate Arkansas licensure, maintain certifications including BLS and ACLS, demonstrate ongoing professional development, and ideally have experience in palliative medicine or oncology.
