Full job description

The Drug Access Navigator (DAN) is an experienced retail/out-patient Pharmacy Technician who operates as a medication billing specialist, working diligently with the patient, patient’s insurance, and providers to obtain all necessary authorizations and financial assistance for patients of Highlands Oncology Group and Highlands Pharmacy.

Certifications/Licenses/Education/or Experience in a related field:

  • Arkansas Pharmacy Technician License in good standing with Arkansas Board of Pharmacy
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT)
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or outpatient pharmacy setting

Physical Requirements:

  • Should have the ability to lift 25 pounds.
  • May be seated for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work in a retail environment which may require standing for extended periods of time.

The Drug Access Navigator (DAN) is an experienced retail/out-patient Pharmacy Technician who operates as a medication billing specialist, working diligently with the patient, patient’s insurance, and providers to obtain all necessary authorizations and financial assistance for patients of Highlands Oncology Group and Highlands Pharmacy. This person must be able to organize, prioritize, manage, and communicate information appropriately in both verbal and written forms. As part of the care team, this individual will build effective relationships with other healthcare professionals and departments to ensure excellence in therapy and patient care. This person is responsible for completing additional pharmacy functions and projects as assigned, including typical pharmacy technician duties at various locations when needed.

Job Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Complete prescription prior authorizations for all specialty medications and non-specialty medications prescribed by the care teams at Highlands Oncology Group. Read and interpret patient charts, communicate required documentation to the team, write letters of medical necessity and document activities as required.
  • Respond professionally to appeal requests, researching and citing peer-reviewed articles to support clinical necessity in accordance with prescriber requests.
  • Obtain financial assistance for patients, ensuring completion of enrollment through drug delivery. Understand and regularly update access to various manufacturer programs, open funding through grants and foundations and available coupon cards.
  • Ensure appropriate procurement, storage, inventory, and record keeping associated with the supply of medication dispensed within the clinic.
  • Participate in pharmacy operations to ensure high-quality patient care and excellent customer service while maintaining cost-effective practices.
  • Engages regularly with clinic physicians, managing expectations and working to advance organizational goals.
