About Crystal Bridges & The Momentary:

Crystal Bridges is a museum of American art located in Bentonville, Arkansas. We explore the unfolding story of America by actively collecting, exhibiting, interpreting, and preserving outstanding works that illuminate the American heritage and artistic possibilities. Founded by Alice Walton in 2005, the museum opened in 2011 and is a public, non-profit charitable organization with free admission.

Position Summary:

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and The Momentary, with support at the Alice Walton School of Medicine as needed. Part time during the academic term with some evening or weekend support. The Arts in Medicine Intern supports the integration of the arts into health and wellbeing initiatives in collaboration with Crystal Bridges, The Momentary, and the Alice Walton School of Medicine. The internship offers hands on experience in arts in health programming, curriculum design support, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Interns contribute to projects that highlight the intersection of the arts, empathy, and whole person care while building transferable professional skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Co design and adapt arts-based learning activities aligned with the ARCHES curriculum

• Support gallery and studio sessions that use art, storytelling, and reflection to strengthen observation, communication, and empathy in medical learners

• Prepare materials, manage set up and logistics, and co facilitate with museum staff and AWSOM faculty

• Scan literature and case studies and grow a shared resource library on arts in medicine

• Connect exhibitions and collections to program goals through artwork selection and prompts

• Help plan and facilitate events, workshops, and community engagements including run of show and follow up

• Contribute to evaluation by collecting participant feedback and assisting with data entry and basic analysis under staff direction while following privacy and confidentiality protocols

• Document sessions through notes and photo logs consistent with institutional media guidelines

Learning outcomes

By the end of the internship, interns will

• Understand how museums and health institutions collaborate to support wellbeing through art

• Gain practical experience in curriculum support, interdisciplinary teaching, and community-based programming

• Strengthen skills in research, program design, facilitation, and evaluation

• Build professional competencies in collaboration, communication, and project management

• Articulate the value of arts-based learning for clinical competencies and whole person care

Qualifications:

• Graduate student in Arts in Medicine, Museum Studies, Public Health, Psychology, Education, Art History, or a related field. Advanced undergraduates with relevant experience are welcome to apply

• Clear interest in the intersection of art, health, and education

• Excellent writing, communication, organization, and research skills

• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment and with diverse participants

• Familiarity with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace and survey tools such as Qualtrics or Microsoft Forms

• Prior experience with community engagement, teaching, or health related initiatives is a plus

Additional requirements

• Ability to travel between museum campus and AWSOM within Bentonville

• Ability to stand and move through galleries and trails for up to two hours and to lift and carry up to twenty pounds of program materials

• Successful background check per museum policy

• Commitment to inclusion, access, and respectful communication

Schedule:

  • Start Date: January 26, 2026
  • End Date: April 18, 2026
  • Inclement Weather Start Dates: February 2nd or February 9th
  • Inclement Weather End Date: May 2, 2026
  • Weekly schedule to be arranged with direct supervisor
  • To qualify for bachelor’s or master’s hours, you must be enrolled in an accredited program or have graduated from an accredited program within the last three years. Students will be required to submit a current schedule or official transcript. Graduate Interns: up to 25 hours per week

Compensation:

  • Graduate Students: $14.00
  • To qualify for bachelor’s or master’s compensation, you must be enrolled in an accredited program or have graduated from an accredited program within the last three years. Students will be required to submit a current schedule or official transcript.

Housing

Housing for internship positions is contingent upon the availability of funding and is not guaranteed. Internships that include housing explicitly state this within the position description. Any housing and/or relocation assistance provided is considered taxable income and will be reflected on the intern’s Form W-2. If housing is provided, priority will be given to students whose primary residence is more than 150 miles or three hours from either Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art or the Momentary.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an intern to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Physical demands: In the work environment described below, position requires work at a desk, utilizing a computer and a telephone for prolonged periods of time, good eye/hand coordination, bending and stretching for filing, and physical stamina to lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of at least three feet for file and materials storage as appropriate for the demands of the office. Visual acuity to review written materials is required for this job.
  • Work environment: Work will be performed in an office environment and museum spaces. The noise level in the museum work environment is usually low to moderate.

If the intern’s personal equipment is used, the museum accepts no liability for any damage caused to said equipment while being used for museum purposes, nor loss or corruption of electronic files on devices.
