About Crystal Bridges & The Momentary:

Crystal Bridges is a museum of American art located in Bentonville, Arkansas. We explore the unfolding story of America by actively collecting, exhibiting, interpreting, and preserving outstanding works that illuminate the American heritage and artistic possibilities. Founded by Alice Walton in 2005, the museum opened in 2011 and is a public, non-profit charitable organization with free admission.

The Momentary is a new contemporary art space that opened to the public on February 22, 2020, in downtown Bentonville, Arkansas. A satellite to Crystal Bridges, the Momentary presents visual, performing, and culinary arts. The mission of the Momentary is to champion contemporary art’s role in everyday life and explore the unfolding story of contemporary American arts in an international context by actively commissioning and exhibiting outstanding works that explore new ideas and inspire action.

Position Summary:

The Coordinator, Curatorial, Research, and Fellowships Coordinator is a highly organized and forward-thinking museum professional who supports the Manager, Curatorial, Research & Fellowships by providing administrative and logistical support related to curatorial department, budgets, research and fellowships, university partnerships, and publications. The Coordinator participates in the execution and development of daily operations and administrative processes. The person in this role should be detail-oriented and skilled in balancing multiple projects involving internal and external partners and stakeholders. Great communication skills and meaningful collaborations across teams internally and with external constituents are key to success in this role. The ideal candidate possesses curiosity and excitement for the field of American art.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • General Responsibilities, Curatorial
    • Support manager, curatorial, research and fellowships by coordinating logistics for meetings, events, and collaborative projects including securing meeting spaces, coordinating schedules, and building itineraries
    • Communicate regularly with external partners to track progress of projects and ensure alignment with stakeholders.
    • Provide administrative support when the curatorial department hosts convenings and conferences
    • Support manager, curatorial, research and fellowships with annual budget planning and tracking including pulling financial reports, assisting with quarterly projections, and completing expense reports
    • Interns & Work Study
      • Provide administrative support during selection and interview periods for curatorial interns and work-study students
      • Assist with the management of relationships with intern and work-study alumni by maintaining contact information sheets and alumni statistics
    • Provide general administrative support for other projects as assigned
  • Tyson Scholars of American Art
    • Help with the support of fellows while they are in residence by coordinating workshops, booking meeting rooms, and serving as point of contact for fellows while they are in residence.
    • Assist with the fellowship selection process and committee meetings by providing administrative support, booking meeting rooms, building agendas, and taking minutes
    • Help coordinate arrival and departure of fellows by coordinating housing check-ins, orientations, scheduling tours, ensuring the apartment is stocked with essential supplies, and providing other support.
    • Assist with the management of relationships with program alumni by maintaining contact information sheets and alumni statistics
    • Provide administrative and logistical support for the Tyson Scholars short-term fellowship, the Tyson Think Tank
    • Assist with the Don Tyson Prize selection process and committee meetings by providing administrative support, booking meeting rooms, building agendas, and taking minutes
  • University Partnerships
    • Support relationships with partners at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, including faculty, graduate students and teaching curators by assisting with scheduling class visits, fielding questions, and providing administrative assistance.
    • Provide administrative and logistical help when the curatorial department hosts convenings or conferences.
    • Assist with the close partnership that the curatorial department has with the MA Program in Art History at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Help with booking rooms for classes, scheduling
    • Provide logistical and administrative support for the annual orientation for School of Art graduate students at the University of Arkansas
  • Publication Projects
    • Help manage contracts, invoices, and schedules for contributors to publications
    • Provide support with securing image reproduction rights for publication projects
    • Assist with tracking progress of publication projects and provide administrative support by scheduling regular meetings with authors, external contractors and internal stakeholders
    • Help with publication distribution as needed

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum education: B.A. in Art History or related discipline
  • 1-3 years of work experience coordinating or leading programs and projects, preferably in a museum, library, or academic setting.
  • Demonstrated organization skills with rigorous attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with various deadlines.
  • Ability to work and complete tasks individually and work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to maintain stakeholder relationships
  • Excellent research skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Curiosity about American art and how scholars are telling new stories within the discipline

  • Physical demands: In the work environment described below, position requires utilizing a computer and a telephone for prolonged periods of time; bending and stretching for filing; ability to move around galleries, the classrooms, and throughout the museum. The position requires verbal and written conversation with others. Visual acuity to review written materials and artworks is required for this job.
  • Work Environment: Work will be performed in an office environment, museum spaces, and in communities served. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
