Job Description:

Position Title: 2025 Food and Community Intern - Spring

Division: The Momentary

Department: Programming: Food and Community

Reports to: Curator, Food and Community

Compensation Range: $13.00 an hour

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Curator of Food & Community and Engagement Coordinator, the Food & Community Intern will observe the creative process of curating Food and Community programming from ideation to fruition.

The intern will learn the intricacies of working with community partners and facilitating small to large scale events, ranging from lectures with 40 attendees to festivals with over 1500 attendees.

The intern will receive hands-on experience working with artists and partners in program areas such as creative and professional development, culinary, wellness, and community engagement. This position is a wonderful opportunity for someone interested in the unique intersection of food and community and the impactful experiences that are possible at the Momentary

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Food and Community intern will facilitate the execution of culinary, professional, community engagement and wellness programming.

The applicant selected for this new and engaging internship will gain experience by getting behind the scenes to learn what it takes to build a particular program experience specific to its program content—for wellness, working with partners at Cocoon Yoga Lab to create a sound bath in Fermentation Hall or for culinary, working with a remote team of chefs planning an upcoming pop-up restaurant.

  • Assist with conducting research and statistics for program-related work
  • Attend pertinent meetings, training and workshops
  • Meet with various department team members to gain a better understanding of work such as community engagement, inclusion and belonging, culinary, marketing and communications etc.
  • Assist with communication, interviews, content research
  • Assist with research identifying community needs
  • Perform general administrative duties such as attending meetings, report production, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a current undergraduate student
  • Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in one of several of the following: Communications, Hospitality, Special Events-Event Planning, Culinary, Creative Placemaking and Community Engagement
  • Must have an interest in food and community building and attend partner events when needed
  • Public Speaking ability
  • Willingness to take initiative
  • Ability and willingness to engage with diverse communities and network
  • Passion for health equity and access
  • Willingness to learn best practices on DEAI, community engagement, arts education, and sustainable community relationship building
  • Ability to think critically
  • Willingness to be creative, energetic, and accountable
  • An outgoing collaborator
  • Ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously

Hours: Undergraduate students (bachelor’s Level): Up to 20 hours a week;

Weekly schedule to be arranged with direct supervisor

To qualify for bachelor’s compensation, you must be enrolled in an accredited program or have graduated from an accredited program within the last three years. Students will be required to submit a current schedule or official transcript.

Compensation:

Undergraduate Interns: $13.00 an hour

  • Physical demands: In the work environment described below, position requires work at a desk, utilizing a computer and a telephone for prolonged periods of time, good eye/hand coordination, bending and stretching for filing, and physical stamina to lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of at least three feet for file and materials storage as appropriate for the demands of the office. Visual acuity to review written materials is required for this job.
  • Work environment: Work will be performed in an office environment and museum spaces. The noise level in the museum work environment is usually low to moderate.

If the intern’s personal equipment is used, the museum accepts no liability for any damage caused to said equipment while being used for museum purposes, nor loss or corruption of electronic files on devices.
