Position Title: 2024 Spring Graphic Design Intern

Crystal Bridges is a museum of American art located in Bentonville, Arkansas. We explore the unfolding story of America by actively collecting, exhibiting, interpreting, and preserving outstanding works that illuminate the American heritage and artistic possibilities.

As an intern at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, you will be empowered to think creatively, ask questions, and make suggestions to help move the institution forward.
The intern(s) accepted into this role are responsible for assisting in designing and producing communications materials for Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and the Momentary. Such materials may include but are not limited to institutional materials; event identities and collateral; print and outdoor advertising; education guides and materials; banners and other display materials; brochures, rack cards and other marketing pieces; development and membership materials; as well as digital formats, including graphics for the Museum’s web site and social media outlets.
The graphic designer intern will be assisting in the day-to-day management of multiple and simultaneous projects, each of which may involve unique design criteria, timelines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Ideal intern candidates will possess originality, creativity, good communication skills and the ability to work within a team.
Principle Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Assist in conceptualizing; producing campaigns and multifaceted communications materials that adhere to the brand standards of the organization and the creative direction set by Creative Director and the Associate Creative Director.
- Collaborate with Creative Director and other team members for art direction and feedback.
- Assist in tracking changes to designs as requested by stakeholders during the implementation process.
- Learn and assist in the maintenance of records for each project, including process documentation and digital archival copies of the work product.
- Assist and provide in-house production work.
- Willingness to learn how to communicate with vendors when outsourcing a project.
- Internship may require interns to attend initial meetings and obtain feedback from stakeholders.
- Assist in proof projects for errors and printing accuracy.
- Assist in providing integrated graphic support for events.
- Learn and provide conversion for digital formats such as in-museum screens and social media.
- Print and design production and assistance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities:
- Creative portfolio strongly preferred
- Exemplary verbal and listening skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
- Ability to communicate with staff and outside suppliers.
- Strong attention to detail
- General understanding of image rights and usage relative to print and online publication preferred.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Demonstrated organizational planning, problem-solving and collaboration skills.
- Web design experience a plus
- Photography skills a plus
Education, Training and Traits:
- Ideal candidate is pursuing an undergraduate degree in graphic design, fine arts, or related area of study from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Ideal candidate entry-level to working knowledge of Adobe CS, Microsoft Word, and proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
- Entry level experience in graphic design and communications
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
- Production experience preferred.
- Ability to understand and maintain the highest levels of confidentiality and discretion.
- Ability to practice the highest ethics as they relate to all aspects of Museum practices.
- Belief in the Museum as a cause for social good and a positive, dynamic force for economic development
- Internship begins on Monday, January 22, 2024, and ends on Friday, April 26, 2024
- Weeks: (14 weeks)
- Hours: Undergraduate Intern: Up to 20 hours per week; Graduate Intern: Up to 25 hours per week

- Physical demands: In the work environment described below, position requires work at a desk, utilizing a computer and a telephone for prolonged periods of time, good eye/hand coordination, bending and stretching for filing, and physical stamina to lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of at least three feet for file and materials storage as appropriate for the demands of the office. Visual acuity to review written materials is required for this job.
- Work environment: Work will be performed in an office environment and museum spaces. The noise level in the museum work environment is usually low to moderate.
- If the intern’s personal equipment is used, the museum accepts no liability for any damage caused to said equipment while being used for museum purposes, nor loss or corruption of electronic files on devices.
