Position Description

The School Based Health Clinic RN is the on-site presence for a telehealth clinic inside a partner school. They are the point of contact for patients, assist in patient care, and coordinate the telehealth process, all under the direction of a provider, delivering excellent primary health care to our patients. The population served will be Pediatric ages 11-18 & Adult patients.

Essential Job Functions

  • Ensures patient information is entered into the electronic medical record (EMR) accurately and updated regularly for all patients.
  • Ensures patient payments are collected, posted correctly to accounts and collections are balanced daily.
  • Schedules patient appointments, based on patient needs, provider requests and approved scheduling guidelines.
  • Coordinates with Patient Financial Services on required patient information in the EMR, payments, and insurance inquiries.
  • Maintains patient flow during clinic to assure prompt service for patients.
  • Obtains vital signs, measurements and laboratory tests accurately, as per protocol.
  • Obtains chief complaint and reason for visit using excellent listening skills.
  • Administers treatments and medications proficiently and safely.
  • Maintains exam room supplies and cleanliness for optimal efficiency.
  • Refers patients as appropriate, interacting with referral sources in a professional and cordial manner.
  • Coordinates telehealth technology to allow patients to visit with provider as needed.
  • Acts as “eyes, ears, and hands” of coordinating provider via telehealth.
  • Occasionally covers for patient care staff at other Community Clinic SBHCs.
  • Processes Prior Authorizations for all SBHC providers.
  • Triages unscheduled patients, telephone calls and other patient concerns using triage protocols and professional judgment as well as a warmth and concern for the patient’s wellbeing.
  • Documents all patient interactions completely and promptly in the medical record.
  • Refers patients to other providers as requested by clinicians; completes forms, maintains records of referral and follow-up of results and recommendations. Appropriately documents referral interactions in the medical record.
  • Adheres to applicable regulatory guidelines and laws, including but not limited to HIPAA/HITECH, CLIA, HRSA, NCQA PCMH and OSHA.
  • Ability to travel for activities such as meetings, classes, and workshops. Must be able to travel by air as needed to attend training, conferences, and related activities, including overnight travel.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Knowledge and critical skills

  • Strong patient assessment skills required
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with people of all backgrounds.
  • Basic to intermediate computer literacy required
  • Able and willing to drive short to medium distances to cover other local SBHCs
  • Able to perform proficiently on current practice management system and/or electronic medical records.
  • Engages in professional development activities, such as trainings and CEUs.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a school of nursing required
  • Must be a Registered Nurse in the state of Arkansas
  • 1+ year of RN experience required
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Strong patient assessment skills required
  • Previous hospital experience preferred due to need for independent assessment skills
  • Experience processing Prior Authorizations preferred
  • Experience administering vaccines preferred
