Description
The incumbent is responsible to operate various concrete & heavy equipment machines in conjunction with City projects.
Safety/Security Sensitive Designation: This position is classified as safety/security sensitive under the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment and is therefore subject to random drug and alcohol testing.Job Duties
-
- Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers; maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of their own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
- Setting of screeds, the rodding, shaping, smoothing and finishing of the surfaces of freshly poured concrete walls, sidewalks, curbs, steps and stairways, the finishing of extruded concrete or any other concrete surface requiring finishing, using hand tools or power tools, including floats, trowels, screeds and straightedge.
- Removing of rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces, using grinder or chisel and hammer and patching holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound.
- Molding of expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers and straightedge.
- Cutting of joints with concrete saw for the control of random cracking in a concrete structure.
- Setting of concrete curb, gutter, and sidewalk forms.
- Read and interpret grade stakes and plans in order to set forms to proper line and grade.
- Perform general labor and other construction related duties as required.
- May assist in directing, coordinating and managing the crew.
- Complies with OSHA and all company safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
-
- High school diploma or GED plus specialized training and/or additional college courses and 2 years of related experience and/or training.
- Must possess a valid Arkansas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or be able to acquire a CDL within 6 months of initial hire date.
- Obtain necessary IMSA Work Zone certification(s) within 6 months of initial hire date.
- Must be proficient in the use of a dump truck, roller, broom, and tractor.
- Ability to utilize both internal and external resources to obtain information and data necessary to carry out routine assignments and special projects.
- Must have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management and staff.
- Able to read drawings, plans and blueprints.
- Familiar with staking and checking grade.
- Possess strong math and analytical skills.
- In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, OSHA guidelines, and construction equipment, including safe operating practices and signs of maintenance issues.
- Ability to quickly process information and make decisions.
- Excellent time-management skills
- Detail-oriented and excellent follow through on tasks.

Must successfully pass criminal background check, including but not limited to convictions, guilty pleas, or no contest pleas to violent offenses, theft offenses, and offenses against children.
