Description
The incumbent is responsible for identifying, anticipating and meeting the current and future needs of children in the community. The incumbent facilitates the use of materials and resources while assisting patrons in the library.
Job Duties

- Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers; maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of their own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
- Supervises a small group (3-7) of employees, usually of lower classifications. Assigns and checks work; assists and instructs as required and performs same work as those supervised, or closely related work, a portion of the time. Content of the work supervised is of non-technical nature, but presents numerous situations to which policies and precedents must be interpreted and applied.
- Serve as a member of the Children’s Services Team with proficiency in using the Library’s automated systems, all print reference materials and all online subscription reference databases. Serve at the Children’s Desk approximately 24 hours weekly and may deliver programs virtually and at locations in the community.
- Must be proficient in the use of the Integrated Library System (ILS) in staff and patron modes. Includes the ability to perform all functions and to design complex search strategies in the use of the catalog as a research tool. Must be able to assist patrons and meet all of their needs.
- Must have proficiency in the use of the computer scheduling and print release management program (Envisionware), with the skill and ability to manipulate the software and to customize, when necessary.
- Must have expert knowledge in the use of the subscription online databases provided through the Arkansas State Library, WCLS and the library's annual subscription products.
- Oversee public internet searching and computer use, explaining policies to members of the public and assisting with meeting their needs.
- Serve as a member of the Professional Team, bringing assets of professional education and experience to the process. Work with the Children’s Coordinator and team members to plan and implement library services and programs in accordance with the mission and stated goals of the administration and Board.
- Serve as a member of the Collection Development Team, using professional resources to evaluate items for potential selection and deselection in assigned areas of the collection. Make recommendations to the Reference Coordinator based on professional education and experience.
- Serve as senior staff member during evening and weekend hours, responsible for the Children’s area and for public safety.
- Participate in the development and delivery of Children’s programming content. Promote services and programs of the Library at all times.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree with current enrollment in an accredited M.L.I.S. program, plus 19 to 23 months related experience and/or training, and 7 to 11 months related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have a valid Arkansas Driver's License.
- Regular use of highly complex machines and equipment; specialized or advanced software programs.
- Ability to utilize both internal and external resources to obtain information and data necessary to carry out routine assignments and special projects.
- Must have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management and staff.
Supplemental Information
Must successfully pass criminal background check, including but not limited to convictions, guilty pleas, or no contest pleas to violent offenses, theft offenses, and offenses against children.
