Description

The incumbent is responsible to repair and maintain equipment and vehicles that belong to the department and other City departments.

Safety/Security Sensitive Designation: This position is classified as safety/security sensitive under the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment and is therefore subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Job Duties

  • Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers; maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of their own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical problems with equipment and vehicles.
  • Ensure vehicles and equipment are safe for employee use.
  • Conduct regular maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Install new equipment in vehicles to include radios, cameras, blue lights, sirens, computer mounts, docks, antennas, gun racks, cages, and prisoner seating.
  • Design and fabricate wooden or metal items for storage and other applications.
  • Respond to field service calls related to malfunctioning equipment.
  • Tow or transport out-of-service vehicles back to the police department shop as needed.
  • Conduct ice cream truck, taxi, and tow truck inspections.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED plus specialized training and/or additional college courses and 5 years of related experience and/or training.
  • Must possess a valid Arkansas Commercial Driver's license.
  • Must have or acquire within one year of employment, a mechanic's certification and an off-road equipment mechanic's certification.
  • CJIS Certification.
  • Must be proficient in the use of a personal computer, standard office equipment, brake lathe, valve grinders, presses, a variety of hand tools, testing light, computer tester, hydraulic jacks, air ratchets, welders, cutting torch, and AC equipment.
  • Ability to utilize both internal and external resources to obtain information and data necessary to carry out routine assignments and special projects.
  • Must have ability to establish and maintain effecting working relationships with management and staff.
  • Must be able to withstand a complete background investigation, polygraph examination, and drug screening(s).

Supplemental Information

Must be able to pass FBI criminal background fingerprint check and have the ability to comply with state and federal requirements for criminal justice information security standards and obtain necessary certifications.
