SUMMARY
The incumbent is responsible for assisting Foreman, Tree Trimmer, in removal and trimming of trees, cleaning up brush and limbs in work area; operating a variety of specialized related equipment and vehicles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in the removal and trimming of trees.
- Chip brush once removed from trees.
- Cleans up property after trimming work is completed.
- Assists the trimmer with brush hogging for right-of-way and the spraying of herbicides.
- Assist in the repair and maintenance of electrical distribution system.
- Keep needed materials and tools accessible to the tree trimmer.
- Operates a variety of equipment and trucks, chipper and the use of attached equipment such as hydraulic powered equipment, chain saws, winches or cranes and various hand tools.
- Ensures equipment is in proper working order. Replaces worn or damaged parts such as hoses, wiring, and belts, in machines and equipment such as truck, chipper and chain saws.
- Makes public aware of hazards in existing work zones.
- Other duties may be assigned as needed

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS (if required)
Must hold a valid driver’s license and can obtain a Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) if needed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
